OE TPMS Sensors on non-stock wheels

Hi All,

I'm sure this has been covered in some way, but I couldn't find a straight answer.

Do the OE valve stems with TPMS fit on a wide variety of non-stock wheels?
Or are there issues fitting the system to wheels not originally designed for the TPMS system on BMWs of this era?

Specifically, I'm looking to install e36 M-Contours and would like to retain TPMS.
I am aware of the difference of the early/late TPMS systems. I have a 2009, so would need the early version sensors.

Shouldn't be an issue fitting them.

Valve stems are pretty standard for cars, the diameter they fit through in the rim is the same.
The sensor part on the end of the stem has a little flex in it and just uses double stick tape to hold to the rim.

Agreed, I've had TPMS on several different sets of wheels without issues. Pretty standardized fitment.

Great! Thanks for the help! For a daily driver on the pothole'd roads of the northeast, I really like having TPMS.

If anyone's curious, this is what M contours look like on a 128i non-sport. Installing M-sport suspension in the spring along with these wheels.
17x7.5 front, et41, 225/45-17
17x8.5 rear, et41, 245/40-17
These were taken off an E36 M3 at 17k miles, still have the original dry-rotted tires from 1998.

Also if you don't want to deal with swapping TPMS, there is a china valve stem cap option ...

I'm using this one on my truck right now. So far it's working nicely. It's kinda neat, you don't need a pressure gauge while filling a tire. Just grab the hose and the display, fill and watch in one crack. LOL

I'm gonna stick with the stock setup to avoid dash lights.

You could always code out the TPMS so you dont get warnings

Should not be much of a problem unless you have weird wheels that use weird placements of the valve stem.

^ that's exactly what I was hoping for. I figured that an OEM BMW wheel wouldn't be too "weird," unless e82/e90 wheels were designed specifically for the sensors.

By weird, I'm talking about having the valve stem located to the center of the wheel near the 5 bolts. Yeaup...I'm living with that.

Hey, at least, I get the most aesthetically pleasing satisfaction of not seeing that valve stem on the wheel's surface.
