Airbag recall service starts in 2017

I just talked with BMW USA customer relations.
They informed me the recall service (Takata airbag module) will start in 2017.

Funny thing is my 135i won't have the recall service because we won't be here in 2017. It would be great if I can have the part number at least, but they don't want to tell me.

My international moving costs many many things. Oh my...

Just register your VIN with the nearest dealer once you've moved. Let them know you haven't had the airbag recall completed yet. Shouldn't be a problem

One of my employees has an appointment with Honda Monday to get a rental car until her airbags come in. I asked her when and they said they didn't know.

So Honda is renting out cars for anyone who is uncomfortable with a Takata?

I know BMW would tell you to pound sand.

Yes, I guess that's the only option I have.

BMW is doing the same thing if you don't feel comfortable driving the car. Just an FYI

The problem is leaving your car at the dealership to rot for the next 8-12 months.

I'm driving mine better chance of getting hit by lighting then dying from the airbag.

Probably.

If the dealership would give me a loaner and let me keep my car in my garage for the duration, I'd do it.

Someone on the other forum just posted today that they are letting him do that as long as he signs an affidavit that he won't drive the car.

Hmm, interesting... Though you've got to at least run the car once in a while.

Not sure about that. Military people store their cars for tours of duty. Either way glad BMW is designing and building their own airbags in the future.

Any Updates?

I checked my status back in December and still no information available.

Has anyone heard anything lately?

My dealer is an hour away and I'd like to schedule some maintenance service but would like to have everything done at once, hopefully.

Thanks!

Ya, come to Honda/Acura. You guys have no idea.

It's 9:00 am, and I am on my third airbag today.

I work for Subaru, and we have two techs doing only airbags all day. Its ridiculous.

On another note, does anyone know if Canada is getting the replacements at the same time? I'm right on the border and the Canadian dealer is 15 minutes from me (and my cars originally canadian so I shouldn't have issue having them do it), and the nearest US dealer is over 2 hours away.

I had a rental for 2 months while I was waiting for the bag to come in, I didn't get a loaner thought because my car was too old. My car sat in the garage for most of the duration.

After waiting two years and two months, I finally got a Takata airbag recall service. I bet my case would be one of the worst recall service in history.
