New catted DP - O2 sensors won't transfer?

So I am having a Wagner catted DP installed in my 2012 135.
I am getting texts from the installer (they will call when they have more info) saying they are not able to transfer the old O2 sensors to the new cat (no reason given yet) and are looking on price and availability of new ones.

Is this remotely normal?
Could the old ones by coked in and non-removable?

Now thy are saying it is going to run mr around $1200 to install the DP with new O2 sensors. That sounds ludicrous.

You probably are going to have to ask them for a reason. If you don't trust them, you may want to stop by and take a look as well. The old sensors could be rusted in place, they may have broken them trying to remove them, or the wiring could be too short if the sensor mounts are in different locations.

I'm not sure about the pricing though. It's almost always considerably cheaper if you do it yourself.

Good luck,

-Sam

1200 is insane. I've read there is slack in the 02 lines if you loosen them from the bay, so if they can't reach that can be a solution. install shouldn't be more than 2 hours labor.

I imagine the cables are too short. I ran into that issue with my VSRF. There's probably some slack upstream, as others have pointed out.

So when I talked to the tech, he said the threads are pretty much welded in now (I forget the term he used), and taking them out will almost certainly damage the sensor and or the threads.

It's possible. I've seen it before and not even in the northeast where you guys have salt and snow. But, not with a OE sensor in a OE downpipe.

That price you got quoted is usury. Shops can charge whatever they want, and they do, but I wouldn't support that one if you can help it.

To be fair, that price includes both new O2 sensors, but it still seems insane.

O2 sensors are like $100 apiece for the N55 and I'm not sure you even need the rear connected, it may be possible to run without it with only a MIL as the consequence. But of course i would put it in so that on a stage 2 tune you only have the light when there is an actual issue.

So yeah, $800 downpipe install. Not good.

You should ask for a break down of labor hours/parts. As a tech I would say 1200 is a little high. New oe sensors are around 250 each, so that leaves 700 in labor. They’re probably somewhere between 100-125 an hour so looks like they are charging around 5 or 6 hours.

2-3 hours for the install I think is about right, maybe an extra hour for trying to get the sensors out (heating them up etc...). Does the 1200 include the price of the Dow pipe?
