I looked around for steelies myself but everyone said that the 1 er is too new and nothing would fit. Since winter was approaching I picked up a set of BMW replica rims for 400$. I think the steelies where 80$ per wheel. Not a huge price diff.

Bumping because I bought these today...
17x7 ET 47 I don't care what yall say, I think they're going to look unique and rad on the 135 (and TireRack says they'll fit, so they shall!).

I bought one of those steel wheels over here - to put in my trunk for a full size spare tire. I really like them. They are from/for a e46 330i. BMW says not to use them as a street wheel - bc of poor brake ventilation. I think for driving in the US you should be fine though.

Well that's one way to make your car look like crap.

^ Exactly. They're tough wheels that'll resist bends. Everyone always says, "why not get some of those cheap wheels of tire rack and go with a little more style!"....well, when I bend one two years down the road, I know I can find another OE steelie to replace it for cheap, where as those "cheap" options elsewhere might have been discontinued and impossible to find, leaving me buying four more wheels.
Honestly, I think it makes it look rather unassuming for what it's capable of, almost sleeper. So function over beauty, but I find some level of fun in the setup as well. Here's a better shot;

I like the steel look. I think you need some hub covers(#4 & #5) here... http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...16&hg=36&fg=10 Or maybe some plastic bmw wheel covers.

^ BIG thanks! I was measuring them for roundels and looking at it, I was a little baffeled by how they were going to work with the design (like IF they'd even physically fit!)...but the diagram helps clear that up, guess they're different than the typical ones.
Give it a month or two and I'm sure I'll get bored and plastidip them some obnoxious color to lend towards the fact they aren't suppose to be taken seriously.
