What kind of maintenance were you following? Did you do the BMW intervals or did you do earlier oil changes? And what mileage is your car at now? Bearing failures tend to happen on cars with lower mileage from what I hear.

Sorry about the late reply on this one, didn't receive a notification in my email.
Anyway maintenance intervals were once a year for oil change, typically less than 10k, or right around 10k since purchased the car when it had 36k. All other maintenance intervals were based on BMW standard intervals. Failure occurred around 65k. Still waiting on motor.... |

So new motor was just received and they have started work. Since the new motor is out any idea what maintenance/replacement items I should do as I will save on the labor?
I was thinking new belts, new spark plugs are going in. Thoughts on changing water pump? Any additional ideas? Thanks! |

Ask for a new turbo and engine oil cooler + lines. The contaminated oil has been through all that. New engine should have new oil filter housing so that should be fine.
Im not on computer at the moment to cross check the parts list. |

Well,
Car is back in my possession, water pump and thermostat were also included in the warranty work. I added in v belt and tensioner as maintenance items. Everything seems to be OK, working on breaking the engine in for now before I can really wring it out. Hopefully will have a few more years of fine before something else comes up. Thanks for the input on this one. |
