I do like the look of fog lights, but after owning my 135i without them, I don't see a need for fog lights.

I've had fog lights in older cars and they came in handy a couple of times.
But, ever since I've had cars with HID's I've never needed fogs.
Other than looks, for me, if I've got HID's then no need for fogs.

Please don't say stuff like this when I am searching for way to connect to after market fog lights to a modded fog light switch.

I don't get the obsession with fog lights, unless maybe you live near a large body of water and frequently drive in actual fog. But why do most of the people who care about them care about them? They're not driving in fog - they just turn them on because they think it looks cool. Ironically, they never get to appreciate how "cool" their own fog lights look while they're driving around, and no one else thinks it looks cool.

I've used mine a couple of times in a little over two years. If they were a separate option, I would've paid $50 or $100 for them but could easily live without them.

I have a 135i MSport coming soon, and I knew in advance that 128i has fogs, the 135i does not. Sales literature, the net, and visual inspection of cars on the dealer's lot all would inform one before buying.

Regardless, I have had fogs on many of my recent BMWs, and I doubt I have had them on more than once or twice in several years. Of course, there are those around here who think they are cool to drive with their fogs on constantly. Geez..............

I've had fogs on my last 3 BMWs and never turned them on a single time. I have them currently on my non-BMW family car and have never used them either. The few times I've driven in actual fog, I turn them on for a second or two before I realize they are useless.

Now I did enable the rear fogs, because I think it's a cool and easy mod, but I expect to only use them a handful of times over many years of ownership.

When I was 16 and got my first car, I put aftermarket fog lights on them and thought they were cool, but they were also considerably bigger/brighter than factory fog lights and they provided real benefit when driving in foggy weather (which was common in the area I grew up).

I use the fog lights on my 128i occasionally and they work well. My office is in a plant that backs up to a river and fog in the morning going to work is fairly common for me. They are aimed low and also illuminate the sides of the road better (also nice on the same road because wild life is also an issue). I also like the fact that they turn themselves off when you stop. So if you want them to be on all the time, you have to keep turning them on. That would seem to avoid the annoying "look at me" fog light thing. I sometimes forget to turn the fog lights off on my SUV.

I agree completely that correctly adjusted fog lights are not an issue for oncoming drivers.

Fog lights can be extremely useful. Last year when in Maine climbing Mt Cadillac the regular (non xenon) lights were useless, I couldn't see anything till I turned on the fog lights. And yes It was the thickest fog I have ever seen, but still. I don't know if Xenon negate the need for fog lights but I think not. As fog lights are positioned in such a way to hit the road sooner. My BF's 328xi has both Xenons and Fog Lights.

That's actually my 128 with a 135 front bumper and the euro fog lights fitted. My understanding is that the 135 has an oil cooler in the driver's side bumper opening so adding the fog lights is not a good idea.

Dont know if it was already mentioned but its not just the brake cooling that would get affected if you put fog lights on your 135i, but the passenger side of the bumper has a cooling duct to the oil cooler right where the fog light would go, that would be more important to not block than the brake ducts.

But at the same time I've always been a fan of fog lights even though they're not needed here in Miami. I was kinda bummed that my old '95 240sx SE didn't have the factory yellow fogs since the previous owner had put on a rare factory Navan bumper...but hey at least I got a cool valuable bumper lol.

You could always place them inside the front duct guard like the Moto GP. Einser M did this but his placement was towards the middle.

Never touch the foglight button, even in fog. In fact until I read this post I had forgotten all about them.

Nice!!

I'm actually considering fitting these:

with a number plate mount, in similar location!

Those look like they'd stick out pretty far if mounted to a front license plate holder, if that's what you mean by "number plate mount"... front duct guard is recessed just enough to give you a more unobtrusive look, and the edges of that guard are solid so you'd have minimal loss of ventilation. The guard on my '12 135i is too flimsy for any kind of aimed light, though, so you'd need substantial reinforcement to mount any ight for use other than in park.

I agree fog lights are not an issue for other drivers - except possibly the appearance. I also think it looks stupid to have them on when it is not foggy. I drive a e88, n52 which has them. I like the fact that you have to turn them on each time you start up for them to be on. I use them if it is foggy but not otherwise. My old SUV was prone to frying headlight bulbs and I would use it's fog lights if I had a burned out bulb until I put in a new one. But generally the fogs were not on in that vehicle either.

While I think a pickup or SUV with it's fog lights on when it isn't foggy, is stupid that is not a big deal to me. There are lots of other things that people do with their cars that I think are stupid too. But it is their vehicle.

Returning here! Looking for expert advice! ... Trying to hook up fogs via OE light switch; wired into FRM, but because U.S. VIN, FRM does not power the fogs. ... ANYONE KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM A U.S. FRM to power FRONT FOG LIGHTS?? (please help)

I encourage 128i owners to get aftermarket leds pure white or a nice xenon 8k colors for their low beams and fog lights. I have done both, I fell out of love with xenon and wanted a more modern looking light with leds. You want to have fog lights on at all times if you live in areas that have potholes, debris, or roadkill. You see everything, and the style of the look is amazing. I don't prefer the look of people doing xenon yellow for fog lights, but that is more ideal if you are actually using these for fog conditions.

If you have xenon with halos (I had halogens originality) then I would advise to not use the fog lights on all the time, to keep a more modern style look like all of the new bmws have unless one has a need to see the road in more detail or if there is actually fog lol...
