I installed the UUC SSK about three weeks ago and am very happy with it, though it's still no Honda/Acura in terms of operation. It greatly improved the mechanical/direct feel of the shifts and also shortened them just the right amount.

However, instead of buying the entire kit, you can order these components separately: 1) Short Shift Lever (# 25 11 0434219) 2) Shift Lever Bearing (# 25 11 1220600) 3) Circlip (# 25 11 1220379) 4) Performance Gear Shift Knob (# 25 11 0429269) 5) Bellows for Performance Gear Lever (Alcantara Boot) (# 25 11 0429990) According to another thread, I think the first three components are all that's really necessary for the short shifter. EDIT: I got the prices for all five components, but the grand total of these individual parts is significantly cheaper than the kit. Am I missing something here? EDIT2: It looks like the first three components are for the 3 series. The individual short shifter parts have yet to be released for the 1 series. |

No, it doesn't. I defer to UR2SLOW1's previous statement on the matter:
"My guy installed the SSK this morning and it took around 3 hours start to finish. The exhaust does NOT have to be lowered but he did have to take off the Trans support and some other items. "

So, has the SSK made a dramatic difference? Are you happy with the shifting and the reduces throw? May I ask what your guy charged to do the installation? Thanks!

Wow, $348 is not a bad price at all. Do you remember where you saw this?

Anyone know if I can use the standard shift knob and boot with the BMW short shifter?
I like the Msport knob, and am not really a fan of Alcantara (aka-suede)
