take it from me that active stear ROCKS!!! is it worth $1400 on a 1er.. Id spend the money myself BUT!! its not for everyone.. i suggest going to a dealer and driving a car with and without it.. big diff..

I cannot emphasize enough how much I hated the active steering option when I drove a 550i.

It absolutely and completely ruined the single greatest advantage BMW has over its rivals: STEERING FEEL!

Variable ratio benefits aside, the extra boost and overly-assisted feel seriously diminished the steering wheel's ability to communicate what the front wheels were doing.

I am open to technology and progress, but this was a step backward in my opinion.

If you're an enthusiast-minded driver, I would recommend you do NOT opt for active steering....at least not without first trying. I think you'll be disappointed.
