e30 M3 didn't need quads. Shoot, now you know how old I am.
e21 323i prolly didnt need the 2 singles but it looked good and set it apart from all the other e21's.

I have a better idea. Why don't they just rearrange the 135i parts and make it a 2 seat mid-engine M1. Can you imagine?

Yep, can imagine it will have the same problem that the Cayman has and to some extent the 430 Scud and the 458---they are not allowed to encrotch on big brother's territory until a replacement for it is on the market.

Yes, I know they are the same ones as the Comp and the GTS, but why test the car with 19" wheels if they will only offer it in 18" wheels as SCOTT26 mentioned!! Maybe they will offer it in 19" as an option after all?

It looks like the rear sits a bit lower than the front, comparing the stock 135i's front to rear.
This model seems to have a modest drop in front, but a much bigger drop in the rear.
Anyone else see this?

Also, with the N55 engine being a bit lighter up front than the N54, and with an LSD and dual exhaust rear, the weight distribution should be much closer to 50/50.
Along with that, and if there is also a bigger drop in the rear suspension, rear traction should be better too.

Maybe you should start a technical discussion. I thought this thread was about the pretty Quads?

Quads=working ballast & more balance & faster? Perhaps I should change my attitude.

Its definitely a Looker. I want so I don't have to spend the same amount of money modding a 135i to a comparable state.

No, but most cars from the asian rim might fit.

All of them that don't have two banks of cylinders, yes. Adds bling, not sting.

Give me one performance reason for quads on a straight 6? Besides making the posers happy. Same with the "bulge". WTF?

Make decisions based on performance not ///Marketing. They keep throwing in the E30 sentiment quotes. If they truly want to harken back to those emotions, they need to shelve all the bling. 19's? Quads? Bulge? CF interior bits?

Bitter Mangler, Excluding the turbo, A BMW inline six is set up as true dual exhaust, 3 cyls per pipe all the way through. But then BMW decided to put 2 into 1 and screwed it all up. Perhaps with turbo you can split into 2 for resonance and under body clearance.

Marketing is very much as important as Performance. What do you think actually moves these cars? Being super reliable? Cheap to run? Excellent MPG? Or is it the supple and ultra luxurious interiors? It is all about looks and performance. A modern M car has to look like an M car, period. Are you forgetting that people will be ponying up to pay for a car more than $20,000 more than a 128i. Paying big money for tiny car has always been a hard sell for the American market.

All this is very true, but having built the brand into a symbol of performance excellence (and not because the cars just looked fast) they run the risk of diminishing the brand if they lose sight of the principles that got them there (performance, performance, performance). It's a very common story as corporations grow, age and then rot. There are probably many people who feel that the X5M and X6M were already steps in the wrong direction. I know everyone here hopes the M1 is a different story.

I don't think anything we're debating here will effect the performance in a way we can easily measure. We simply dont know what else they moved around weight wise. I mean while we're at it we might as well go back to 16inch M wheels, rip out the power seats, get rid of the adjustable xenons. You'll end up with a car you can't sell. I guess I'm in a slightly different camp. I dont care what other abomination a company makes as long as they have something for me. I dont think Ferrari and Lambo buyers pride themselves that the company does not make SUV's. They're likely proud of the company's history of producing amazing cars. Porsche having the Cayenne/Panamera has not diminished my feelings toward the company one bit.

You're right with performance, performance, performance. But until somebody can point me how much its going to suffer and in comparison to another car it dosen't bother me.

I had to change my underwear after reading the First drive of that 3600lb M3 with competition package. BMW can do amazing things with cars. It dosen't matter the weight. Read here:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...fications.html

In fact I'd say they are better with heavier cars than lighter ones. The Z4M was one of the lightest M's in a while and it still got its butt handed to it on many levels. E30 aside its almost as if 33XX-35XX is the hotspot for this companies mass produced stuff. Now I fully expect the M5 to be a major asterisk in my theory.

Unfortunately, today, you buy a BMW sports car for looks. You buy a coupe/sedan to get your socks rocked.

so um. what's it going to be called is the next big question...

interested to see how these new generation of M's would really be like with the turbo's. I have ridden in a x6m, and while the motor is unbelievably strong, the motor was quiet, not high-sprung at all, and just like a buffer version of the n54/n55. Hopefully they will make the lighter, sportier M's more sporty in general.

Please, by next year you'll be able to get a used 911 997 Turbo for the same price as this car... I think the concept is nice, but the decision is obvious.
