Info needed re '08 135i switch - does it operate anything?
Hi
I just bought a CPO '08 135i. I've looked in the manual but this particular control switch is not identified. On my car it doesn't appear to do anything and when I press it the light does not illuminate. Can anyone identify what it is for and should it be operational on an '08 135i? Thanks in advance. |

I thought that disabled the auto stop/start feature, but it looks like you have a US-spec car, so that can't be right...

BMW stop-start
When you stop at a traffic light and take your fott off of the clutch... the engine will switch off. Then when you step on the clutch... the engine will start back up. Not sure how it works with an automatic... but I suppose it switches off the engine when your still and your foot is on the brake pedal. IF your car a Canadian spec car? Or maybe the previous owner used this euro switch to control something extra/aftermarket? Time to pull thet pannel off and follow any wires behind there! |

Since U.S. and European 1-series are built on the same assembly line, I'd venture to say that it's just a parts mixup at the factory. If the indicator light doesn't light up when the switch is pressed, it's likely that the car doesn't know the switch is there. I would be curious to know if you could code this option in the VO and then see if the switch does anything! I suppose it's possible that the car is equipped with start/stop but since it's not offered in the U.S. then no U.S. VO would have it by default.

Thanks for the info.
I have a US 135i 'vert with auto transmission. At least I know what it is used for in other markets and that it's not a problem that needs to be fixed in my car |

I have an 08 US spec coupe and that's just a blank space for me. So i'd venture to say it's just a parts mixup.

That button exists only on the 08 verts. It's for helicopter assistance. If you decide to bail out of the car at any time you can activate the button and escape via a rope ladder dropped from a BMW helicopter.

Anything in your user manual?
You might want to take it to the dealer for warranty and complain it doesn't work!

That's the a** hole switch. Notice the markings. Depress this when you get too upset with some a** hole who does something stupid to cause you to exercise accident avoidance.
