lol, I think the decision was made somewhere between the first slalom and first pivot. like a little kid on christmas he was. it was most likely the sway-bar that made all the difference, our stock one is underengineered. Take that germany, I said it!!!

I need every run I can get in my car when going against class A. everytime I did well, I would find larry two seconds better. So close, but sooooo far away.

Larry, how did it feel without your sway bar in? loosey goosey?

Not great, but I was also driving it "wrong" for pretty much the entire day. This was the first event I've not been on R Comps for quite a while. Mike passengered and off-handedly remarked that I was jerking the wheel thru slaloms, which you kind of have to do with R Comps. (totally my bad)

The car did not transition as well as as I remembered.

another failed attempt at correcting whatever's ailing this camber plate. at the recommendation of terry fair @ vorshlag, i'm taking the car into ACE performance in Tewksbury to have them diagnose the issue on Monday next week.

doing so actually makes sense, but i didn't know what shop to bring it to and all of the shops i called were "hands off" AKA - NO EXPERIENCE with 1s & camber plates. I shoulda looked at Vorshlag's "Dealer" page in the first place, this would've been a moot point.

well, thanks Terry.

Hopeful once again

performance brakes? add it to the list.

by the time i finish "upgrading" this car, i'll have spent more than the price of a Miata. A Miata that would still be faster than the 1 at the AX!

3pm appt at ACE...

That's really the extra rubber and camber up front. You'll be disappointed until you have camber plates and 255's up front!

nothing yet. have to go back for deeper analysis of camber plate noises tomorrow.

the guy thinks it sounds like a blown strut?! is that possible with 20k miles on the car? what would a blown strut sound like over big bumps?

Maybe your end links are too short now that you have the camber plate in? I honestly have no idea

after today it'll be either fixed or back to stock. i'm bringing my stock top hats and parts and stock front wheels/tires.

if need be, i'll order the dinan plates. they are on sale this week anyways. or just get smaller front tires :-(

i won't ride with the clunking.

I hear ya.... frustrating. Good luck.

I sincerely hope it is not a blown strut, because you'll still have the issue with the stock strut hat then.

well folks, some great people are helping to figure this out. Vorshlag and ACE are excellent people and know their BMWs.

we're still debugging the issue; anyone have an OEM passenger side strut they'd be willing to sell, loan or give me for a test? does anyone know the oem part # for the strut?

Because they've been so helpful and assured me that even with the noise, it's still safe to drive hard, i'll be riding out the issue until it's resolved, even if i have to upgrade my springs/shocks and then deal with the resulting changes in camber and potenial rubbing issues lowering might introduce, why not, that's what the plates are for in the first place.

i'm still hoping that the issue is "simple" like the plate or the strut and i don't have to get new suspension this year. My plan has been to get familiar with the car, at least a year of autox, before tweaking the suspension.

here's to the awesome Logic7 sound system in our cars and turning the volume up to 11
