Waterpump Noisy

Is this a sign that the WP is dead / on it's way out? It's making a whine on key-on.

Engine on or key on? Water pump isn't supposed to run with the ignition on

Key on. The car has the PPK fitted and on key-on it cycles for 10 seconds or so. I can hear water in the resevoir as well, so I assume it's the water pump.

My guess is that it could be something else. I remember When I did a turbo install on my car i had unplugged the fuel rail pressure sensor to remove the O2 sensor wiring easily. For the first test start I didn't bother plugging it back in (was the only electrical item unplugged). Ignition on and the water pump would run constantly.

I think the first step would be reading the fault codes on the car with a proper scanner like INPA

Error codes point to faulty communications to the water pump. Most likely faulty water pump, although could be wiring as well.

Yep you were right thanks. WP rooted despite supposedly recently being replaced.

Just replaced my water pump and voila exact same issue

I initially had the water pump turn on with ignition on (before self bleed), but that was because my top thermostat plug wasn't seated correctly.

Sounds normal to me for a water pump on bleed mode.

Shouldn't it be hardly noticeable if at all?

Admittedly I couldn't hear it inside the cabin or with the engine on.

I've done the bleed procedure on dozens of cars and it sounds exactly like that. Can definitely hear it in the engine bay.
