Borla sounds great but not loud enough, I want LOUD

My car is stock except for N55 Midpipes and now a Borla Exhaust.

They sound great and the car is real fast but its too quiet. The Borla sounds just as quiet as the stock exhaust.

Does the car just have too much sound deadening? Without spending too much $$$$ Is their anything i can add which will make the car sound louder?

thank you,

Glenn

Yup with your current setup, downpipes are enough to make the car loud, but if you want real loud, go with DP,s and a straight pipe setup like akra or gthaus

A cheaper alternative to replacing the exhaust you just got would be to replace the back end of your N55 mids with this:

BMW Performance Y-Pipe Resonator Delete.

Makes a WORLD of difference... I put on the Remus rear section and it sounded better but not much louder. Removed the resonator and now it sounds like this:

I have the PE and the sound is great but I too want a little more volume. From what I have read here the Maddad midpipe seems to be the way to go since I am keeping the stock DPs.

Glenn,

As I posted in your other thread too, you should consider Maddad before anything else; here is the very relevant (old) thread concerning that particular set up from Harold (HP Autowerks) with a video:

My suggestion was intended to help with keeping costs down... And I'm pretty sure it will result in an almost identical sound.

Adding the PE Y-Pipe to the N55 Mids makes them straight pipe.

Just a suggestion though...

Where can I purchase the PE Y-Pipe? Any negative effect on back pressure?

The Borla sounds great in a tunnel or outside the car. I think my problem is I can't hear it driving the car with the windows up.

I had a Borla Race exhaust in my Cayman S and it sounded amazing. It was loud you could hear me coming.

No effect on back pressure... It's pretty hard to negatively affect back pressure on a turbo car...

Not sure where you'd get one from in the states. They come with the 135i Performance Exhaust but you should be able to pick one up cheap by itself. Maybe even on the forums here somewhere...

In all honesty, if you find it's not loud enough, you need to look at either DPS or a louder rear section. Changing out the mids won't do much, I'm guessing you'll be back here again in a few months time.
I was thinking the same when I was looking at which exhaust to go with. Like the Remus video above, it sounds nice but with the camera just there, i don't think it's loud enough, it's very subtle. You don't really hear it much in the car. Several have gone that path only to then swap it out.

I'd recommend a different rear section, something with a valve so you can go from loud to quiet whenever you like. HMS, Akra, pretty sure there are others to choose from.
If you just want it loud all the time, Meisterschaft without a doubt!

Trust me. I hear it in the car. I had N55 mids and Berk Race rear section (NO muffler) on my 135i and this is louder.

If you want something a little deeper, get the N55 midpipe.

I've heard harlequins set up in person! It is quite loud and has a nice deep tone!

Put one of these in just before the rear muffler.
