Garage List
2023 Audi RS6 Avant  [0.00]
BMW M2 Competition   [10.00]
2009 BMW 335i  [0.00]
2015 M3  [9.52]
Out of state 1M

How best to go thru an out of state 1M purchase to ensure that I'm not missing anything? Is a PPI sufficient, and what are the important questions to ask the seller?

I may not be able to find the time for the drive back home too, so won't see it till it shows up.

Your help is appreciated!

I would first email/pm/call the seller and ask about a few "non-negotiables."

1. Accident history
2. Repainted vs original paint
3. Winter / salt exposure
4. Modifications, if any.
5. Track use - not necessarily a negative, if car has been well looked after but something you should know about going in.
6. Check carfax - for what it's worth.
7. Go through seller's pictures of the car carefully.

If these things check out, arrange a PPI at a local shop (or dealer). PPI is usually done at the buyer's expense. In my experience, I've arranged a PPI after the price and details are essentially agreed upon--with the stipulation that the deal will go through unless PPI finds unexpected surprises.

If the car is in a major city, you could see if anyone from the forum is local and could go eyeball the car for re-assurance. The Porsche forum RennList has a tradition of members doing a "RennFax" as a no obligation / no liability look-over.

Then you arrange shipping and if everything works out, you get your car and it blows your mind!

Happy hunting.

This is one of the best benefit of being forum members here, most member if not all, is very knowledgeable of the 1M, and I believe would gladly help out.

In fact, I think its a great idea, its like doing a favor for a future member

Thanks! Great comprehensive list you got here. Hunting has been interesting for the most part.
