Bmw Problem

Can someone PLEASE confirm this-

i have a 125i E82 halogen coupe (so EU version not US version) and even through reading every forum there are still some conflicting advice. Dackelone says that the halogen pre lci 125i 135i US version the blackline zenon tails #282 are PnP, however the EU halogen pre lci versions you'll need a footwell module 3 upgrade and a harness cable.

Schmeidmanns said the same thing for the #282 xenon blackline tails. A few other members on this thread said you dont need anything they are plug and play on halogen pre lci model cars. But I couldn't workout if those people has the US 128i models.

Another seller here in Australia selling the xenon blackline tails #282 said that they will work on my 125i halogen as they said they work on ALL pre lci models both halogen or xenon etc. So theres conflicting views. I need to know difinitively from someone who has the same model as me and its worked without a FWM3 and harness and its just been PnP.

Thanks

Not positive but I don't believe P/N 63212225282 is PnP on the 125i/128i. Think some wiring has to be done. I have a 135i and they are PnP for my car, that's all I know for sure. Maybe someone with a 125i/128i (or who knows for sure) will chime in.

First... a 125i is like a 128i in the USA. Except it has a different level is standard options/equipment.

IF you have a 125i with HALOGENS... the #282 kit LED tail light tubes will not light up. That is bc the EU cars don't come with a FWM3(like the US 128i's do!) so you need to upgrade your footwell module from the FWM2 to FWM3.

IF someone has an EU 125i with Xenons the #282 kit is PnP for those cars.

BMW does sell an adapter harness with the Blacklines(you can see it in the ETK with the Blackine tails)... but I am not sure what it does. ?

Get a used FWM3 off of ebay.de and order the #282 Blackline kit(which comes with two tail lights, cheaper than order each separately.

Thanks Dackelone!! have you actually tested it that the FWM2 doesn't work with the #282 kit or is it just going by what bmw has told you?

No. But I have seen a few 1Addicts in EU/Germany say that you need a FWM3 module(plus it needs to be coded, if its a new part from BMW).

Perhaps check over at the 1erforum.de site. I think there are many threads on this.

But you already have your answer from two dealers. So you know you need a new footwell module.

We had some LCI and Blackline threads too...

thanks for all your info. Do you think there is any point in getting the harness? what would I need the harness for if other pre lci cars are PnP? Don't get how the wiring setup would be any different.

If I got a FWM3 from a wrecker that has been on a post 2009 125i/135i would that be okay to use or would it still need coding?

As I recall, you only need one harness and its not very expensive. I seem to remember something around ~15 euros. But you only need this harness IF your car has halogens AND was built before Sept/2009!

I think if you get a used FWM3 module you won't need to code it.

What do you need the harness for exactly though electronically? I know that realoem state it, but in a practical sense, why would a 11/09 halogen 125i model not need a harness and a 6/09 halogen 125i need one. Makes no sense in practical terms. Others have said you dont need the new footwell module or harness on pre 9/09 halogen models in these forums thats what us confusing theres no difinitive answer to it. Surely someone on these forums has tested it and on an EU 125i and either the bars havent lit up and they have needed a new FWM3 or its just worked and the blacklines have PnP. Thats what I truly need to know.

My 128i 09 halogen model e88 built before sept 09 was plug and play with the black line taillights. Had a recall on tail lights while back, have no idea if they upgrade my module though.

My advise buy it without the module. If it works great, if not return them for a slight hit. That was what I was willing to do, and they worked out great for me without that module. Don’t know if I have that module though can’t confirm.

Thanks for that. Yeah I might just try that too. Is there any way you could find out with module you have? It seems that 128is have the module 3. Any 125i guys on here that have done it with pre 8/2009 models? Or anyone with a module 2 and its been plug and play???

ALL US cars be it a 128i or a 135i have a FWM3. That is WHY the LCI lights(Blackine's, included!) are Plug and Play(PnP).

Like I said before... an EU spec 125i does NOT have a FWM3, but rather a FWM1 or FWM2 module. That is why you need the FWM3 module to power up the LED tubes(dim and glow them, when locking the car).

So... your 125i needs to have a FWM3 IF you want to install LCI Blacklines. AND if your car was built before Sept 2009... you will need that harness as well. I don't know why... but that is what the ETK(electronic teile/parts katalog) says.

Thanks. I understand it says you need one, but I need to know in practical terms as to why and how it is applied. If anyone has actually done it to a pre sep/2009 EU 125i 135i that would help a lot. It just doesn't make sense really when you think about it, why you would need that harness. :S

Hi guys solved!

The xenon #282 blackline lci tail lights are PLUG & PLAY on my EU 125i halogen which is a pre Sept 2009 model. Dackelone said that it would only work on a pre Sept 09 US version as that has Footwell module 3 and the EU version doesn't have that footwell module. Well, that is incorrect, the footwell module doesn't matter at all Dack. It's plug and play. Thanks all for your help, much appreciated!!
