I always heard Amsoil was one of the best. My auto mechanics teacher was an Amsoil freak. Hats, shirts, stickers on his car.
I don't care how much any oil costs, just want the best. I hope BMW uses the best full synthetic Castrol... |

Because he has worked on a wide range of BMW engines over the years, I'd recommend reading Mike Miller's comments on the choices of engine oil (and in fact, all lubricant choices - diff, AT & MT gearboxes, etc.). You'll find his comments pasted into the following thread:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6608 Mike has been doing the Tech Talk column in the CCA Roundel for many years now, and is widely respected. He also takes great exception to BMW factory recs when he feels they are justified...so no 'party line' from former Senior Chief USN Mike. As I noted further down in the thread, I liked the idea of getting my own copy of this as it's handier to use and I can also insure I've got the latest rev from Mike. His email address in in that post, if you feel the same way. Jack |

It is. They were around long before any other brands. I've been using them since 1988 or so. You can order it online and it arrives quickly.
