Need Help!!!

Hey guys so my car is at the dealer at they're giving me a hard time about my exhaust.

I drive a 2013 135is and as you know it came with the performance exhaust which was installed portside.

My dealership is claiming it was installed by a 3rd party and therefore not covered under warranty.
How do I prove to them that they in fact were the ones to install the exhaust?

Have them carry the Burden of proving it was installed by a third party. What are you getting looked at under warranty anyways?

Edit*: You should ask to talk to a manager if that is the reason they are trying to void the warranty. It's pretty cut and dry BMW installed it since it's an 'is. If only they knew what their own brand sold they would know they are wrong.

The more I read about BMW service the more I recall stories my parents friends told me in the late 70s and 80s about 'big three" dealers.

You know where those people went.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Good luck.

Hey thank you for the reply, I was having the sos replaced and had them check out a litany of other little issues...
They came back saying I'm having throttle lag because of the exhaust being improperly installed, ?, they're saying because the exhaust was 3rd party installed they are not liable.

I know the Monroney sticker is in the glove and I told them to check that.
But I don't remember if it even has exhaust information on it?

I'm not a mechanic but how can a improperly installed exhaust affect the throttle??

You have an actual 135is and not a 135 that was modded to is spec? If so, the car was built with the PE (that was one of the standard parts of the is model). They should know that.
Now, if something else was done to the exhaust (DP, aftermarket midpipes, etc), they may have a case, but it seems unlikely that the exhaust is going to cause your throttle problem. That part doesn't make any sense.

Again, if your car is an actual "is" model, point out to the idiots that it came from the factory that way.

Are you sure there isn't some piece of this puzzle you are leaving out?
Are you the original owner? If not, maybe previous owner installed some other exhaust and reinstalled original PE when he sold it (and possibly did a shoddy job).

If the Performance exhaust wasn't installed properly (and wasn't tampered with after it was originally installed at the port), it's on them. Honestly, I can hardly believe they don't know that the 135is comes with a port installed PE. I would contact BMWNA and tell them about this, or at least talk to somebody higher up at the dealer, preferably somebody who knows what they're talking about.

Here's an announcement that introduces the 2013 135is and talks about what's added to the 135i to make it the 135is, including the quote below. Maybe showing this to them will jog their feeble minds. Haha

Quote:
A Performance exhaust system complements the increased engine performance and provides a sporty exhaust tone.

Why are you on this forum? Why aren't you giving the dealer hell for mistaking the original equipment that comes on their car? 5 minutes on google with your service advisor would prove them wrong / a printout of your car's options list would have proven them wrong.

I'm two hours away from my dealership and have been talking on the phone to correct this issue.
For whatever reason, when they look at their build specs it's not coming up with a bmw performance exhaust as being installed.
It's rather frustrating to say the least
