Driving the 1M ever day in my commute which includes shuttling kids to school....
totally sucks. Way too much temptation to for spirited driving. I wish I didn't have this car. boo. And to top if off I feel guilty all the time that I'm having so much fun twice a day while my wife has to drive the actual commuter and my kids have to get out of the car when I drop them off. Man, such a weight on my shoulders. I'm so sad. |

Mine is daily driver too, rain or shine. I find it a great everyday car. The only downside is that I feel that constant urge to floor it but with the city traffic it is rarely possible and this car deserves to be driven hard.

Cars are meant to be driven, drive it.

DD mine when I am home, 12k miles and counting. The 6MT is very easy to learn and drive. Civil when you want it to be, not so much when you don't. This thread makes me want to go drive!

just enjoy it.
I have driven it year around for 19,000 joyful miles in the last 2 years. I have track, daily and snow tires. I live outside Buffalo NY and drive as far south as North Carolina (11 hrs away) and as far north/east as Vermont (5hrs away) . I've climbed an icy hill to get to my daughter's Guys house- She was shocked we could get there. Some folk have to park thwere cars at the bottom and walk up.
I put 110,000 and 10 years on my E46 M3 as a daily driver. The only reason I did not have 145,000 miles is that I owned a Z3 at the same time. It is a wonderful car that can be a little monster or shockingly docile as a daily driver. It is a well designed machine and is meant to be used. I always used to say with my M3 that my plan was NOT to give someone a wonderful used car but it still was a wonderful used car. Holly |

DD here also. It's easy to drive for a MT car, the clutch is not heavy at all and shifts are a lot fun just like all the other M's. Feels so much easier to drive after my smg M5. City driving between 1st gear and 2nd was really annoying.

Thanks for all the support and responses.
However, I've decided to make the switch to a Porsche! Looking at 996TT's now.

Thread revival! Now that a few more years have passed, would one be crazy to think of buying a 1M to daily, if you can even find one? I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'd like to get something in the next few years and nothing really excites me, but interestingly enough a Porsche 997TT. Not the 996 lol. The M2 while newer with a warranty would be a great option, I still feel its not as visceral as the 1M.

The only problem with daily driving the 1M is constantly trying to resist the urge to double the length of your commute just for the sheer pleasure.
