Just putting this out there.. I could have my employees in the US ship it for you if they are telling us no. I will only ship tirerack stuff so if you ship something else there i'll have it returned.

All I ask is just to cover their time and gas (as that is what I would have to pay).

I needed an emergency set of wheels(damaged side wall thanks to crap roads), tyre power hawthorn did me tyre rack prices.

I also rather shop local

I am sure everyone would do the same with the local price is on par with fully shipped overseas price. Personally, I would be happy to support local businesses if their price is within 10% of overseas prices but 30% or more..it's a rip off.

Have been reading this thread with interest. Actually, this may be my first post in the 1er section.

Regarding international tyre purchases, I have received some information from tirerack. Here is an excerpt:

"At this point in time we can no longer send tires to Australia with the exception of Goodyear/Dunlop."

I am in the market for some Michelin PSS. I will contact tirerack regarding shipping to a freight forwarding address. Here's hoping that parctice has not stopped either.

It sounds like different sales reps give different answers?

Don't ask if they'll do freight forwarding - they don't have a choice - it's just an address to them.

You don't understand how a freight forwarding company works. They simply provide you with a US postal address which you give to places in the US where you buy stuff.

You don't tell the retail place you re in Australia. They don't care.

while you do not tell them, some companies will not ship to addresses that are known to belong to freightforwarding companies. There is quite a list on shipito of websites that will not ship to their address

Yep freight forwarders are fine, the retailer doesn't need to know and I've never heard of any retailer refusing to ship to a US address.

I use usmail1 over the years for all sorts of items but won't use them much anymore. They mostly use DHL and for some reason prices have become a lot dearer these last 12 months. I'd never use a freight forwarder for tyres, they would probably charge $600-800 plus you have to pay the domestic shipping too.

Much better off looking for another US seller on eBay or one of the grey importers in Sydney. Baan Velgen in holland also stock and ship premium brands at good rates last time I bought contis

I have been blocked a few times from using freight forwarding companies when purchasing from the states. Businesses have a list that they check against. If your shipping address is on that list its a no go. "This is a known freight forwarding address and as such we are unable to ship to you."

Thanks MF3. I was already a little uncomfortable freight forwarding large items such as tyres, just needed to see what the total worked out to be.

I haven't tried the grey importers in Sydney. To be honest I wouldn't know who they are. If anyone has a contact for a reputable one, please PM me.

Baan Velgen have a few tyres listed. I am looking for some Michelin PSSs, so will see if they carry those. Cheers.

Hi, first post
I have had no response overnight from them - Is there a preferred contact. I tried the generic customer service email.
I noticed Tempe tyres offers similar prices if you factor shipping - $840 for 2 rear Dunlops - search on ebay.

Reading the posts I take it the Michelins are streets ahead of the 135i Dunlop OEM tyre? Early days but so far I find the Dunlop moving around in corners and lost my first traffic light GP with a T6 XC60 as I just hit the DTC limits and sat there otherwise they do seem quiet which I like.
Are the PSS's noisy? If not will try and order some of these next few days

Yes a Volvo 4WD Wagon - smoked me. I was stunned! Then I ran a stopwatch over a 0-100 time with DTC on and I got 7.1secs. Volvo 6.7 secs approx.
Then i read here you need to switch off DTC - got it!
I will admit to years of quattro driving and just stepping on it so i need to relearn some finesse.

Have sent an email to Gill at Tirerack - will see if I can get some grip with new PSS's..assume i can run the PSS Rear and OEM Dunlops front with no probs?
