At those miles i don't see why they wouldn't reimburse you for the cost. Faulty turbos fall 100% on them. Hope BMWNA gets it sorted for you man

Would be interested in the development of this - I thought the turbo used on the N54T (335is / Z4 / 1M) is the same as the previous N54 but the extended warranty only covered the previous models? I wonder if was a genuine mistake or intentionally excluding the last models that have lower production count

Very sorry to hear this. But as others stated i would just get upgraded turbos since oem are done and the difference is just the dme tune. If you were down in miami i could gotten you the turbo swap (both) for less than 1k and stg 2 pure turbos a local guy selling bnib for 3,500 = 4,500. 2k less and lot more whp.

Tell them to cover the one turbo then. Cut costs at least. Since they claim that only "one" turbo is the same. Still don't see how they are different

Doesn't this have nothing to do with the turbo's and everything to do with the wastegate mechanism?
DSCPLN I'd be getting my lawyer to send them a nice letter. |

I suppose they don't actually break down the turbo between Bank 1 and Bank 2, as in when they order the turbo replacement, both came on a single part number? Almost sounds like a technicality to me but I'm not the person fronting the lawyer fees, just a curious 3rd party on how I should plan on keeping my car - ie, save up for the turbo replacement or at least the labour to replace the waste gate because they will go at some point

Sorry to hear that.
Factually (see earlier reference) the parts on their respective banks are equal Only the algorithms to control boost and to open and close the waste-gates are different between N54 and N54T. If it were me I would try to escalate this. |

Maybe this will help. I would try a different dealer.

Sounds like BMW NA is only doing the minimum due to an existing lawsuit - it maybe the same part failing (wastegate) but because it does not have its own part number, they referenced the part that included the wastegate, search all the cars that used that part, and extended the warranty on that specific part number. This sucks but that's how I imagine corporate logic goes

"Hi there,
Good afternoon everyone this has taken some serious digging. Also the assistance of my Bmw field rep. N54T Bank 2 Turbo part #11-65-7-64-9-291 N54 Bank 2 Turbo part #11-65-7-649-290 N54T bank 1 Turbo part #11-65-7-649-289 N54 Bank 1 Turbo part #11-65-7-649-290 The N54 Engine and the N54T are very similar engines. The N54T is a Higher output engine than the N54 is. This is not a recall this is a class action lawsuit. Which only affected the N54. Bmw responded with warranty extension. Which was set for 8 years or 82k outlined under SI bulletin B01 02 12. -- My BMW Service Advisor" I get the picture on BMW NA successfully dogging N54T warranty claims through a mist of concurrent equivalent parts#, and also that your BMW service advisor has really looked into the issue. But both are exposed in their shortcomings by listing the N54 Bank1 turbo part# as equal to the N54 bank2 turbo part#. That cannot be correct. |

Unfortunately for us N54T owners, our (relatively) limited numbers mean we will have to fight a bit harder in order to get the fair warrantee coverage the standard N54 owners are getting. DSCPLN, it sounds like you have pretty much come to terms with the fact that BMW won't be covering this repair. Hopefully you're not giving up the fight, for our sake at least!
