400 HP? Easy
< 3000 lbs will be tough. Your basically going to have to gut it and turn it into a dedicated track car.

Not a whole lot.
GIAC Stg2 Tune, intake, intercooler, downpipe, exhaust = 400hp <3000 lbs = gut it, cf hood, cf trunk, light weight wheels, light weight brake set up, light weight battery, light weight seats, remove all sound deadening. Done |

To get under 3000 lbs you need to lose 300lbs right? It could definitely be done without gutting the car. Carbon fiber hood, trunk, roof and fenders, light weight seats, lighter wheels and tires, lighter brakes, ligther susp, lighter battery, lighter exhaust. Even without the carbon stuff I bet you could get 200lbs out between seats, wheels/brakes, exhaust and battery.

Probably close 3400 lbs. It would be pretty hard to take 400 lbs off the car. Rear belts, trim, lightweigh battery, carbon fiber hood, trunk, fenders, lighweight glass in rear and rear-sides. Lighter wheels, maybe 18" lighter seats, take out door glass, air bags, speakers, etc. You can get close, but it would have to be a pretty serious investement. Now if possible, 3000 lbs car with 400, you'are getting into GT3 like territory. : ) Personally, I would love to see that! Last edited by nachob; 09-09-2011 at 11:43 AM.. |

I dont know how much the hood weighs by itself but depending on the process and how the manufacture makes their hoods there might be minimal weight changes so make sure you do your research on the weight difference.
Change out the exhaust to a high end titanium exhaust sytem where it weights roughly 5-10lbs. (stock is about 45-50ish) Gut the trunk entirely. Gut the back seats but you can put them back when need maybe. If you want you can get a body shop to make fiberglass mold of you hood and just make sure you have hood pins cause you can get it the weight down there. Wheels is a must 1piece forged and depending on tires as well some weigh more than others. drop the seats and get light seats doesnt have to be baller to be light if you are going for weight reduction just make sure seats are FIA approved.(track purposes) You can save a lot of weight by changing the brakes along given that they calipers are forged ETC. I would again make sure what you are putting is quality and will be achieving your goal of weight reduction. On my other car the complete brakes systems(pads, rotors, calipers) together is lighter than my oem calipers As far as 400HP What they guys said should be more than enough to get you there. |

My car is a stripper (except for HK) - i'm just surprised how difficult it is to lose some weight. 3000 lbs with 400hp equates to 7.5lb/hp Its probably far easier and cheaper to get to 436 hp with 3275 lbs than to get 400 hp with 3000 lbs. I know the lb/hp measurement is very simplistic (sprung vs unsprung wt considerations etc.) but its still a metric worth looking at.
