Drives: an 1M not often enough

Waow, who’d have thought that the 1M would become a Porsche limited edition level investment, weighing in at 4+ times MSRP. Who recently wanted to get a GR86, got the 1M experience: “Unlimited, but hard to get”, corporate eufemism for ‘intended to be sold out’ [In EU]. In 10 years preserved specimens will also sell for multiples of their MSRP.
- To the ‘bins part special’ sour pusses: I hope you ever get to drive a 1M. When the total exceeds the sum of it’s parts on this level, the bin ‘origin’ is by far not it’s most significant characterization. Comparing auction prices of originals to conversion budgets feels as pointless as teaching a course on capitalism in prison. Alas, for this kind of car budget, I would not end up at an 1M, converted nor new. - On the “M2 offers everything the 1M did …” argument: M2s indeed had/have more power and features etc. According to countless reviews, however not that instant deep road connection that seemingly only hydraulic steering can/could bring. On engineering level i have no doubt, that given the explicit design objective, electric steering can achieve similar steering feel but driveline electrification is the main theme nowadays. Hopefully soon engineering budgets are available again to achieve P968, 1M or GR86 levels of ultimate AND affordable driving fun. Last edited by eeghie; 05-07-2023 at 08:06 AM.. |
