FWIW, on the N54/55, my E90 service manual indicates to disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing in addition to draining the rad via the Petcock.

Presumably this is to drain the block.

Appears to be the connection at PN 11 to the Thermostat. The under car shot is taken looking towards the rear - you can see the intercooler in the top right.

Use BMW coolant, it's not expensive.

BTW, what's the shelf life (if any) of the coolant? I overestimated and bought two gallons of BMW coolant instead of just one.
I would think an un-opened bottle of coolant could last for years in storage. Try to store in a climate controlled location.

Then that wouldn't be my garage.

Guess I'll have to keep it in the house somewhere... Maybe in the living room as a conversation piece?

Found these on the net FWIW. It sounds like un-opened it will last a long time.

Thanks for the tutorial. Thought Id add that for a N54 the intercooler must be lowered on the drivers side to access the bleeder plug.

Sounds like a pain arse to change fluid for N55 by moving the intercooler to access rad drain plug.
Can you just disconnect the return line to the reservoir/fill tank and do 2-3 electronic bleeds while filling the reservoir tank with new coolant?
