5er's priority: 1. Luxury 2. Comfy 3. Sporty

Not that im saying thats the preference for 3series owners and 5 series owners, but what the actual car really "do" and feel like.

take your pick. whats your priority?

i think the 530 is more suitable for you. yes, 3 series is more sporty, but i always feel humble when i drive next to a 5 series. to me, theres just more of a spotlight on the 5 series. everytime i see another 3 series, i just think to myself "it looks a little bulky." But the ride is awesome. Its all preference i guess

I like that.

I pick number 1.

Plus the 3 looks better.

go with the 5 series. I think you would be happier and better off with a 5 series. It'd suit you more. G'luck with your decision.

Either one would be great, for me it would boil down to economics. The E90 is a lot less expensive than a 5-series. That said, it sounds like a 525 would be the best car for you. Despite the comments about how similar the two are, there is quite a bit more interior room in the 5-series. Two inches more shoulder room, inch and a half rear knee room may not sound like much, but in reality that puts it in a different class.

Hmmm. Good points. For my every day commute, I don't need the room, but it would be nice to have another option for family activities. I priced it out and it's $10k more. Kind of lot considering how much a 330i costs in Hawaii. I would consider the 525i as a less expensive option, but I really liked the acceleration of the 330i - that's why I settled on it. Like I said, I am not an aggressive driver, but I would like to have some get up and go when I need it.

well for the 5 series at least... i'm not diggin the look. the rear lights are shaped too aggresively for a rear end that doesnt look aggresive at all... and likewise for the front. unless your getting a M5, i wouldnt consider the 530i unless of course you have a family and is looking for alot of room and comfort that the 330i will not provide for the rear passengers.

Well, the E90 starts out lower than the 5er, but (using MSRP as a guide) a similarly equipped 530i would have an MSRP of ca. $53,000 while my 330xi has an MSRP of $50,000. Not a big difference.

Of course, I came out of a 5er and really like the 3er better so I wouldn´t consider the 5er anyway. Only the 3er provides true Freude am Fahren.

Remember too that you can find a pre-owned 530i in excellent condition and that right there takes $5 to $8 grand right off original purchase price. There's one in my area at a BMW dealer and there selling it for $44K with only 8000 miles on it. So comparing it to a brand new 3, that sounds like a good deal to look for a nice pre-owned one, search your local dealers.

I also don't care too much for the rear of the 5, it's the trunk that just doesn't flow right.

There is also about 2 more inches in leg room in the rear of the 5 series compared to the 3.
