What's your definition of cheap? I got my DME upgraded at Stevens Creek BMW for $350 about one year ago.

Seems like a lot of money to pay to just have BMW fix their stupid code. And with all the horror stories here, it might not even do it and I'll be out $350 for nothing.

$100 would be to where I wouldn't care. $200 is, "This is really annoying but if it fixes the issues, good." $300+ is, "Wtf, this highway robbery."

I heard $600 before so I jumped on $350. Doing this by BMW technician and whatever you wanted to fix or whichever flashing tool you wanted to use, it is probably worth $350. For me, the price was worth it since it got rid of my issues and allowed other possibilities

The other route is to do it yourself. I believe this is possible if you have the right tools and do enough research (I did some researches before going to the dealership). However, there are a lot of risks and unknowns associated with it.

I have this issue in spades. My car is starting to nearly stall when the AC is on and runs rough as shit when it is on. Now I'm having issues where I lose my brakes sometimes too because the car nose dives in RPM and cuts power to the brakes.

DCT is also shifting very poorly. I've done a right hand turn onto a street and the car failed to enter 1st gear two times. It moved forward 3 feet each time and put me in harms way with my car just laying there. Took about 3-4 seconds for it to move.

I updated for the AC/DCT lag. It's all gone now!

Wow that sounds really bad, has it always been like that? Have you installed an aftermarket tune?

My recommendation would be for you to just go to the dealership and have them diagnose the problem but you probably have to pay $$$$.

But if you want to see how you can minimize the cost, you should just go to the dealership and get your software upgraded (BTW, do you know your your software date/version? Does your car ever throw codes?). If you don't do this, you will always wonder if there is a software fix that could have helped. If this doesn't fix it, you can go back to the dealership and said you had this problem after the software upgrade and see what they say Not sure if it will help but one other thing that I would recommend doing is get a new battery.
