135i N55 vs roommate

Hey guys, last night me and my roommate had some friendly competition and decided to do some pulls against each other.

I have a stock 2011 135i - N55 DCT E88 convertible. No performance mods yet, and my roommate was saying his V6 Mustang would beat my car.

He has a 2012 Mustang V6 6-speed w/ bama tune, intake, exhaust and driveshaft. His car weights about 3400 to 3500 lbs, and the stock HP is 305hp. In comparison, the BMW E88 is around 3600lb.

Technically, his car is lighter, has more HP so I was expecting him to beat me. We did several runs, from 30, 45, and 60mph, and a dig which I used launch control. Lo and behold, I beat him on every run. I pulled him by a significant amount each run (about 3-4 cars) and found that shifting at 6k RPM nets the best results.

At the end of the day, he admitted that my car is fast as ****. Is this 135i really that freak of nature? I've seen reviews that it's faster than a Evo and STI, and it's weird because after driving both Evo and STI, I could swear that they pull harder than the 135i. Regardless I went to sleep happy that night

Now, he is trading in the V6 Mustang today, and buying a 2016 Mustang 5.0. This has 435HP putting down 380whp. Of course he is going to beat me stock. I have my finger ready to order the JB4 tune and wanted to see what you guys think my car will do against this? I talked to other guys, who are recommending the COBB AP but I just got the latest software update and don't think it's compatible, and need something fast to keep up. Can I run on MAP 1 or will I need race fuel and a higher map? I'll be making a before and after video against this stock Mustang 5.0 but wanted to see what you guys think.

I have a 2011 E82 coupe with a intercooler/charge pipe, jb4, intake, and cat back exhaust. I've gone up against a few new GT's and I can edge them out from a 30mph roll but not from a dig. Probably my tires but the 1er's are always sneaky fast.

Not true! I've beaten every single '15+ GT 5.0 at my local drag strip! Not even a contest. The new rear suspension in the '15 onwards mustangs just can't launch. I have a 08 convertible 135i with exhaust, intake and JB4. Runs 12.4@110.

BMW is known to underrate our engines. I can beat a stock E92 M3 in a straight
Line and around a track. I do have suspension mods though and the ppk.

So we did a few friendly pulls. For both cars being stock, I did 'surprisingly' well against him, as he ultimately pulled away as expected. We started with a 40 and 60 roll and the little 135i was no slouch. He pulled about 1-2 cars each time. Note the 5.0 Mustang is a 6-speed and he isn't the best driver, and he isn't exactly a light person.

We then tried a dig launch with launch control, I was able to get him on one. Then he actually had a good launch, and even my launch control wasn't enough to keep up.

Overall the friendly competition is close enough and with some mods it will become more interesting.

Interesting video, as I also have DCT and my roommate's 5.0 is a manual.

Has anyone with just a JB4 135i raced a stock M2? That's a surprising pull with that M2 against the 5.0.

Seems that with a Cobb or JB4 stage 2 tune you should have the same power ratio as the M2 tested in the video above (365hp).
I can't wait to get my hands on a JB4 stage 2......without the wife knowing I spent $ on something like that. I also have a friendly competition with a friend with a MB C400.

Just down pipes and a jb4/cobb/JZW/proceede tunes will probably let you catch him and possibly beat him off the line and on pulls.

If you want to beat him off the line you'll likely need an LSD. Our cars just aren't great from a dig. Adding a ton of power doesn't help much without the LSD to put it down evenly.

What's the best way to launch my dct? Staying in auto or using the paddles?

Depends on your mods and how sticky your tires are. Some of the guys that are FBO have so much power that they start in manual mode in 2nd gear. 1st gear will just spin the tires at those power levels.

Have you tried the built-in launch control?
