Airplay in car
Good Day All!
so i've managed to get an Apple Airport Express. I plan to do this mod to it an get it in the car. https://bmn.name/post/2013/06/01/airplay-enabled-car/ i need some ideas of it would be best to fit the device. i was thinking removing the centre console so its close to the aux/lighter socket. other ideas was behind the radio, or there in the dash. 3rd idea, jump power off the MULF, then i just need to route an aux cable under the seats/carpet to the aux in. i was hoping that there was space under the centre console? |

making some progress.
First test! got the 1st gen and 2nd gen devices. testing 1st gen: testing 2nd gen: so following the blog, making some changes. The blog has the usb hardwired to the board, we are going to try using a printer port and usb. Making it extendable and also easier to use/remove. Found a location to place the express. it wont fit in the media pouch. Removed the pouch, going to get 3M lock tape and use that under the arm rest and on the express. Plan is also to wrap/spray the express black, thus making it invisible in the car. I could lift the centre console and place it there. but im lazy. and this just seems easy to use/remove the device when i want to. Last edited by golfer23rm; 11-15-2019 at 02:29 AM.. |

shew, forgot to update this.
got the device all sorted. got some 3M locktape and put it under. place it under the arm rest, put some black carbon fibre look vinyl i had lying around. then when arm rest was down, it was a bit too tall so it knocked. Decided next place was under the passenger seat. i was lazy to remove the centre console. got a decent 2 port 2.4amp usb charger. the white cable i replaced for a better aux cable. got some slack to the cables. and all works well. the system takes around 20s to boot up. so as the car warms up to temp, the wifi kicks in, phone connects, select airplay. boom, crystal clear quality. had some issues going over bumps but rarely. so far, for the costs, i am a happy chappy. ordered this off ebay - bluetooth steering remote for cheap. should help with forward or back on songs. use my apple watch but thats a bit annoying or i have the phone in a holder and always on. both works well. |
