Available AW 1M

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
EDIT (3 Jan 2012): I have reconsidered. Car is no longer for sale.

So . . . I am considering what I would have thought was unthinkable a few months back -- letting go of my Alpine White 1M. The car has 3510 miles (or so, still driving occasionally), 26000 of which are from the drive home from the Performance Center in August.

Condition. Car is perfect -- protected during drive home from South Carolina with TrakkTape and when that ran out, painter's tape (TrakkTape review / post and photos of car can be viewed elsewhere on the forum). Of course, love the car, but if I can get what I am into it (I paid MSRP plus 6% taxes), I may move on to something I don't have to park for three months every Winter. Frankly, am not sure I'll sell, but am interested enough to at least gauge the market.

Options. Harmon / Kardon and Premium Package (iPod / USB adapter, BMW Assist, Blue Tooth, power seats, ambient lighting, folding and auto-dimming mirrors, etc.). Car will be sold with 1M-specific ///M mats with orange stitching.

Service. The 1200 mile service was done in Amarillo, TX. No transmission fluid mix-ups. Differential oil flushed and replaced with correct, US-spec oil (PN 83-22-2-282-583).

Photos available upon request.

Not looking to make a profit, but would need to get all I put in -- MSRP (just over $50,000) plus taxes paid (around $3,000). I don't have my paperwork at the ready, but $54,000 probably gets it done (if, after sleeping on it, I in fact decide to move from "feeler" to "for sale"). If you can't tell, I am really torn about this and haven't made up my mind.

First off, I'm not sure I do want to sell (see comments above). Second, after many long hours of therapy with my wife, it seems the reasons I am considering selling all come down to the Wayne Carini mantra: "It's all about the chase." That, and, I guess, the Winter comment in the original post.

ok.. well i had to google the wayne guy.. looks like he enjoys chasing and finding classic cars.. and I presume that these marathon therapy sessions have concluded with SOMEBODY coming up with the idea that you were chasing the car just to chase it? Well.. let's leave that alone for awhile... only you can answer that.. or.. perhaps you can answer if this is a well documented issue with you?

As far as the fact that WINTER is coming... well.. I have about four words..

1) SNOW TIRES
2) WHO CARES?

if the car is in your garage all pristine and clean and available for two days all winter... then itsn't it worth it. Even if you completely mothball it for the winter... come spring.. won't you want to drive your 3500 mile sleeping beauty? or is it the other beauty in the house that's not sleeping over this?

You, sir, are a good man. My son and I enjoyed your ED posts and remarked then that we suspected you'd be a great friend. We also noted that we'd never seen a guy with a wider smile than yours next to your BSM at the Welt. As far as the sleeping beauty, it really is me on this one -- the wife's the 1M'er's biggest fan (I know, I am a lucky man). Still mulling, but you've made some good points. Thanks much.

It would be a shame to see her go, I know there will be other cars but I have a feeling the 1M will be worth much more alter down the road than it is now.

Service. The 1200 mile service was done in Amarillo, TX. No transmission fluid mix-ups, though in the interest of full disclosure, the folks on Amarillo did replace the differential fluid with fluid that does not have the friction inhibitor called for by the BMWNA technical service bulletin (there's a thread on this too). The differential will be flushed and the fluid replaced this week with US-spec fluid. I'm told by folks on this forum and my local service manager that euro service specs do not call for the friction inhibitor, unless or until a customer requests it due to differential "clatter" (mine is quiet, but I want the US-spec fluid, thus the flush and replace).

I will post more photos later today / this evening.

Good luck with the sale. I'm actually kind of sad to see you're selling your 1M, especially after hearing about your fantastic PCD experience. Will there be any 1Ms in Idaho if you sell out of state? Seriously, as the owner of a 1M, have you thoughtfully considered your obligations to the Gem State?

Hopefully whatever you get to replace the 1M will be awesome in its own right. This is a good time to be an enthusiast; so many great cars out there...

Yeah, I am a little sad, too. As far as I know, if it goes out of state, Idaho will be "1M-less." Kudos on the Gem State reference. You are right, though, we are in a golden age of sorts in terms of amazing, enthusiast-oriented cars. The chase should be fun and hopefully the car will go to a good home.
