What are the chances of a new 1M in the future???

Is it a possibility? Could they return to form? A basic reincarnation of the 1M? Could you guys imagine a 2021 10 year anniversary 1M....

Or with the M2 that's just never going to happen....lol

Thoughts...

the original M2 (N55) was philosophically the closest we will get to a 'new' 1M and having driven a couple now it was a decent try but nowhere near as enjoyable. To someone who has NOT driven a 1M the M2 must be great but to anyone who has driven a 1M it feels like a diluted, boring, re-interpretation of the 1M. the S55 M2 Competition is even further away from the 1M philosophy.

BMW are heading in a different direction. They are heading towards electronics and comfort and safety. 2010-2011 was a very special time at BMW M. They had a naturally aspirated V8 M3 and a $47k entry level M car that arrived with big fat fenders and an old school, spooling, raucus tweaked standard-line twin turbo engine on a car that was developed as a frankenstein idea by M engineers. How much more punk could you get for a german carmaker??

To me the 1M is the sequel to the 2002 Turbo. Will there be another sequel in this line and some kind of 1M "hommage" in the future?? Possible.....but my fear is that it will be more of a gimmick rather than a truly dedicated redux.

I guess catering to enthusiasts is not as profitable as catering to the masses.

However, I'll say it again......the M Division needs to focus on on their heritage. Otherwise, what's the point of the M Division anymore?

I believe any M not really a 1M but any M edition that is limited production and all manual trans will have future effects. I saw a Sotherby's listing MY2002 e39 M5 MT 750miles sold for $189,000 last month. You don't know what you got till it's gone baby bimmer, so Imma gonna drive the shit out of mine and long live my memories!

If I had a corner of the M lot make a modern combo e30/e39/e82 all MT's throw it against the wall and see if it sticks... literally.

To stick little "M"s all over the place and then charge more for the car.

M2 was it.

I give BMW credit for doing it. Financially it would not make sense, very few sales in comparison to SUV market, very little margin, possible warranty issues from customer base, demanding customer base (enthusiasts), but it formed a broader perception that M Motorsport is still a vibrant division of the company which helps when marketing M-sport SUV's, so they probably get something back in marketing and customer perception.
