This should start a spirited discussion.

Would you use this? I'd want more test data and actual customer field use.

No need. Just buy the BMW oem one. Comes with everything you need for half the cost. I've been using it for over 100k miles now which is a lot of oil changes and I have FBO except upgraded turbo. No issues

Interesting idea, but why reinvent the wheel? The old-school cartridge filters that BMW has been using for years work fine.

My only concern is the o-rings. You'll need to replace those; so now you'll have to source them individually every oil change vs getting new ones with the OEM filters.

LOL it's stupid things like that from the manufacturers that hurt any chance of making a legit point otherwise. Even if it's a better filter, that alone should make any cautious person skip it and move on.

I could see a filter like that being better, given the right mesh sizes you could do a staggered setup with courser on the outside, finer in the middle, and really do a good job trapping all particles not just certain sizes. But I see it as expensive and something you'd still change unless you have an additional setup to backflush it backwards. Seems like cost and effort for no real gain, a solution for a problem we don't have.

The aluminum construction could conduct heat into the housing or cap, increasing your chances of burning your hands off when you do an oil change

Looks like a nice product, but I'll stick to buying 3-packs of Mann filters...

the first review is what really threw me off:

"2nd review on ECS. Mann the oil filter I love it. Does exactly as mentioned. I can feel the difference from the other types of filters out there. I feel special knowing that I have something that the big boys got under my hood. Engine is loving this new filter!!!"

How the hell do you feel a difference with oil filter flow?? that's just ridiculous. anyways, I agree with the other posters here. nothing wrong with the tried and true method of using regular Mann filters, especially considering that they are very good quality.

No, there's a reason oil filters are disposable.

They do work for racing engines. When I raced motorcycles guys used similar ones b/c we changed the oil every 2-4 trackdays. On my car no need. As noted above you still need to change the o ring seals, still need to flush it & clean it. Complete PITA.
