I can testify for Elsabor's idea. That's essentially what I'm running but on an n55. It sounds ridiculous. I've received many many compliments on the sound. Come down to Ventura today if you want to hear it!

I might be alone here, but I think both exhausts in those clips sound awful.

It sounds EVEN better in person! I also really like the BMW Performance exhaust. I have heard those in person many tmes. But JK's is really off the charts(!), banshi loud!! The eisenmann exhaust isn't really that much louder than stock. I have heard that only eisenmann's non TUV exhausts have that "good" deep growl that we crave. The ones with TUV are really quiet. Then there is the fact that the eisenmann exhaust are soo much $$$. Dackel |

I'm so over exhausts...i like my car fast and quiet.
It's kind of silly when people who have loud exhausts drive their car up revving like..."watch out everyone here comes a racecar!"....when it doesnt do crap for hp/tq on this car. |

I know because I went through this before with my Mini, then went to aftermarket cat-back, then went cat-less, and now I'm back to aftermarket cat-back. All the while, I still love my BMW perf axle-back, I plan on keeping my midpipe stock, but throwing in catless dps.

It costs very little to make our cars sounds great. A great choice would be to add any dual cone intake and any very simple muffler/axleback. If you want it fairly loud go with the MadDad Street series, quieter go with the MadDad Whisper series.
My first mod was my Injen intake and I noticed some neat sounds but for some reason just by adding an axleback I got great sounds from both the exhaust and the intake. Downpipes made less difference and actually caused more in cockpit vibration, etc. With my Whisper series my car is loud enough that I can be sitting in the waiting room of a tire repair shop and for sure hear when they fire up my car. However with windows up it's not very noticeably loud. If I were buying a higher end setup I'd get the full CPE system.

I guess I just don't understand what you mean by going for a Ferrari-like sound. You will need a high revving V8 or V12 for that. Our motor sounds great on its own, but will never sound anything like a Ferrari...

I've got the AA axel back muffler delete and AR catless downpipes and the car sounds absolutely insane, I love it. It's easily the most complimented aspect of my car but it sounds nothing like or even close to my neighbours F430. That thing just sounds unbelievable.

You guys are missing a key factor, he's picking up a 2012 so it's the N55 motor, which sounds very different than the n54.
Go to youtube, type in 135i n55 and you'll get plenty of results haha

BMW performance gets really raspy when you remove the cats
theres a lot of great sounding exhausts out there, some are more expensive than others its all about what you are looking for not what someone else tells you. honestly my exhaust is way too loud for daily driving which is why i will probably be switching to rouge engineering for non track driving. i agree with 135forthewin check out some vids on youtube and maybe some local people in your area and go from there.
