Agm Battery For 1m

So at dealer yesterday getting airbag replaced. Asked them to check battery and it's at 50% and needs replacing. It's original. Even though I've had it on the CTEK Charger for 6 months. It's time for a new battery.

From what I've gathered on this forum, (and since the original battery has been discontinued) looks like some recommend 61212353811 for a replacement which is 70, and with 680 CCA.

Dealer said I should NOT use that battery because it is NOT an "AGM" like the original.

So my question is has anyone discovered the best AGM replacement for the 1M original battery? Does it matter if it's not AGM? Thanks!!

A lot of people will use aftermarket and code themselves E.g. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=388196&page=3
If you want OEM I came across this the other day: http://bmwusaservice.com/batteries?u...FY9lfgodcXAJ0g

I just installed a new AGM battery from Batteries Plus, which was an exact fit and matched the OEM battery exactly. Order it online and pick it up and save 10%. There was also a $10 mail in rebate. As a result, the total price was about $170 and included a 48 month month free replacement warranty. I registered it myself using the BMW code reader from ECS. You can buy the code reader and the battery and still be cheaper than the dealer.

Is there any chance you could provide a part number / link to the specific battery? Much appreciated.

I went with the Duracell because the X2 had a slightly higher CCA rating, and I wanted to match the OEM battery.

Make sure you remove the blanking plug opposite the vent tube hole from the OEM battery and transfer it to the new battery.

Which code reader did you buy from ECS?

What has to be "registered" with a code reader? I don't get why changing a battery has to be so difficult. is this a bmw thing or are all manufacturers doing this?

You tell the car what the amp hour rating is and if it is wet or AGM.

Each has different charge acceptance rates. The car then adjust alternator output appropriately.

I need one myself...168 at NAPA for an AGM and I have Carly already.

I believe registering the battery tells the car to reset the charging profile for a new battery. Also, the car records the mileage of each battery replacement

My research showed the Batteries Plus warranty at 48 months free replacement was substantially better than the NAPA warranty.

Cool thanks, any harm in using the non-AGM battery? as long as it is coded correctly?

It's a BMW thing since 2007. The car has to know the battery size and rating for charging. The ecu runs the alternator for "smart" charging over the battery's life. IF you just replace the battery... the new battery won't last very long(w/o coding it to your car).

You can also use the "Carly App" to register a new battery along with a OBDII wifi plug. This combo runs less than $70 for both.

None. Just code it. Takes 5 mins with Carly.

You absolutely can replace an AGM battery with a wet-cell battery. You just need to code for the change so it charges correctly (AGM and Lead-acid batteries require different amperage during charging). There is definitely benefits to running AGM batteries though.

I wrote this comprehensive guide on how to register/code a battery: https://www.[spool]street.com/forums...-battery.1020/

Remove the brackets [] around spool.

It walks you through some of your other options.
