Is it just me or is the 1M loaded about $10k more than a similarly-equipped 135i? You can inject an awful lot of performance (power, handling, braking, etc.) in the 135i for $10k. Of course, if I was going to do that, I would just get the 1M, but I would hardly call the 1M affordable in any regard. Then again, a loaded M3 is over the $70k mark, which is just absurd, considering you could buy two 328i's for the same price! So the $10k premium for a 1M begins to look not so bad.

Wow...1M base price is a good $15000 over my 2011 135 base price

And then I added all options (alarm, leather, navi, HK, "M" package, PDC, Ipod, heated seats, BMW assist, bluetooth) I felt I wanted minus Premium package...grand total out the door $41,000.

For another $4000-$5000 I'm adding 19" rims, quad exhaust, slight graphics treatment, interior carbon fiber trim and more power.

In hindsight, I made a pretty smart deal. It's no "M" but it's a great car, I've been driving it and it's already 50% paid off.

That sounds really reasonable, considering a fully loaded 335i is around $52k.

ZPP comes with (430) Auto Dimming interior and exterior mirrors and (431) Auto dimming rearview mirror. But no garage door opener which is dumb.

Last time I read anything about options for the 1M, you couldn't order BT and iPod separately.

Thanks Franklin.

BMWblog has a nice article about option prices and Euro delivery price. It appears if you want Bluetooth, it has to be ordered with ipod, but ipod can be ordered standalone.

You are correct in that I am looking at also a stripped 1M but they added leather, 19" Comp Package wheel, Alcantara solely for looks and raised the price. That's my only point....just wish the price difference was a little more AND that BMW and Dr. M did what they said which was focus on weight and real performance. Alcantara should be on your butt not the dash. The tell you can't have a sunroof for weight, but I think there is close to 4lbs per wheel difference in weight and they make leather the only option for real performance. Leather is OK on super bolstered seats like Recaro but cloth, alcantara is better. So I am not a "hater" as many of you like to label us old guys, just sharing some thoughts and opinions.
I had or more I modded, an alcantara dash onto my old s2000, as much as it sounds like a gimmick; it actually helps A LOT with glare. Which made driving and tracking even more of a joy. And as concerned as I was that my alcantara dash would look like shit after a few months due to the direct sunlight, it actually outlasted my alcantara trim seats that I had installed as well. Because as much as we might take care of our alcantara seats if we had them (taking a few extra seconds getting in and out to protect the material), our friends, associates, lot boys, mechanics, etc, will not. Hence I'm more than fine with just regular leather seats and no sunroof instead.

bmw thinks the budget minded younger generation is in their mid 30s with a steady job - because that is a big improvement over the crowd that can typically afford an M3 - well into 40s and 50s.

We only hoped that meant recent college grads in early 20s with a decent salary - we were wrong.

Actually half of M3 owners are 20 something recent grads and other half are 40-50 years old.

I think you're spot-on. However, it was never realistic for us to expect for BMW to cater this car to someone fresh out of college with their first job. That's what a basic Mini Cooper is for.

You know I LOVE my 135i. But given that the 1M's price would be soooo close to a M3 (sedan or coupe) - I think I would go for the M3. Mainly for that awsome NA engine and the added choices of car colors and trim.

I think IF the 1M had more colors and trim choices... I would be waiting in line for one. As it is now. I am happy with my 135i.

I appreciate your input. Now that I see there is a discount for ED, that helps. Now as you said, if they offered the 1M in Interlagos Blue.....Tha would probably seal the deal...I love Interlagos!

Pricing is almost exactly what I figured (from reading various posts around these parts)... I think its within reason.. HOWEVER I was told by my AD today that my car will not be delivered until NOVEMBER 2011! I surrendered my deposit since the begining of October and was in constant contact with him. I am suposedly #1 on his list... what gives? (for reference this dealership sold 1300 cars last year)... and will get only one car.
Did anyone else get a projected delivery date today?

Seems BMW Blog site has been crashed for an hour or so. High interest?!?!

If I'm inferring correctly, there will be ED discount of 7%? If so, that is spectacular news.

See Dackel, I look at it the other way. Even though I know that the 1M will cost almost the same as a MSP M3 sedan, I want the 1M
I WANT the smaller car that should handle more like my R53. I WANT the mid-range torque that shoves you in your seat (without reving the hell out of it). I WANT those nasty (in a good way) fenders with the M Diff underneath. I WANT orange stitching on my seats (even though it won't really go with anything else on the car, lol)

Unfortunately for us Military Sales customers right now it's, want in one hand... (& you know the rest )
