What can we expect from cannibalizing M2 engine?
I read that the M2's engine will be a variant of the N55. Does this give us hopes of taking pieces from the M2's N55 and working them into the e82 platform? Will aftermarket development benefit from the M2 using an N55 variant?
I guess no one knows at this point but what do you think? |

I would also assume some S55 stuff works...There are a ton of the-same part numbers.

Pulling some of the supporting internals from the S55 to handle the increased boost/power.

Do you think the M2 intake could be retrofitted and is there any possible benefit to be gained there? |

Oh and wouldn't you be a bit mad as an M2 owner if they just slapped a tuned N55 in there? For the intake, it'd probably take some work. BMW redesigned the N55 intake with F chassis to make it less complicated. So I am assuming they will stick to something similar with some sort of ram air component.

The basic N55 engine is used in both vehicles with a 3.0 liters of displacement and a twin scroll turbocharger, however, some components from the S55 are included for more stability and to allow an increase of boost pressure and injection quantity. An optimized air intake and an optimized exhaust system are also included.
The forged steel crankshaft, the crankshaft bearings and the special pistons and high-power spark plugs will allow an increase in the peak power combined with optimum durability in most sports usage.

From what I understand, the M2 will have the same basic engine as the M235i. No major changes, better oiling set up, slight changes to the intake system, and a more aggressive ECU map for more power. Im sure the total parts list will be alittle different, since ///M has to make these cars as close to indestructible as possible. That said, I don't think many of the M2 parts will transfer, and if they did, I don't think it would be worth the hassle or money.
The E82 n55 has been broken by shear power yet. Some have failed with high lateral G load in cornering due to oil starvation, but those are rare occurrences. Motec has a 600 plus HP F30 N55. just saying.
