I'm curious too. I just got my 09 in a couple weeks ago and notice some lag below 3000 RPMs when accelerating in say 3rd or 4th gear from a cruise. (I have the mt) Nothing too bad but certainly noticeable. I'm not overly concerned about it but if a fix is available I'll certainly see my dealership for the upgrade. I'll eventually get a Vishnu or BMS tune which will solve the problem if BMW doesn't step up.

If it's out in the US I would assume it's available here but it's not something that BMW does on a regular service. If there isn't anything wrong with the vehicle I can imagine that they do not update the firmware.

Do you have a particular program with lag that makes you want the update?

What you're saying sounds like a cold start.

Is the car generally cold when you do that?

Turbo cars rev a little higher while idling for the first few seconds when it's cold outside. It rarely happens in summer...

Further to this discussion

What is the most updated software? I took it to the dealer and they said BMW won't authorize them to update it or something. I have a June 08 build. I am so confused now. Do you have to pay for any of the updates ?

They tend to only update firmware when there is a known issue otherwise they leave it alone.

Apparently things have to be broken first to get any remedial action, so much for buying one of the safest vehicles on the market

As someone who has dealt with hardware and software integration before, I wouldn't say it is that simple.

A new piece of firmware with updated parts around it could be an issue as it is very hard to do regression testing on all hardware combinations with all firmware versions.

If there isn't an issue and they upgrade your firmware at your request it could possibly cause a problem.

The dealer in downtown Toronto had no idea what I was talking about, regarding the new version when I had my car in this week.

I heard its supposed to come out in January, so the dealers should have it by February.

One of the things the later software gives you is support for the Alarm in the Coupe. Has anyone done the upgrade for that. I am pretty keen to put the alarm in mine, but not till I can get 31.1.
