"Dipstick" Is Always 1/4 Quart Low - Oil Level Sensor?

I posted this in the general, and am hoping there is more technical here.

About 2,000 miles ago I changed the oil and filter and added 7 quarts. The "dipstick" showed I was 1/4 quart low - same as before I changed the oil.

When I took the car to a play date with its PCA friends it showed 1/4 quart low. I added 1/2 quart, went out for a half hour session in the rain. During the session, it showed 1/4 quart low. After the session it showed 1/4 quart low.

Yesterday I disconnected the oil level sensor and drove the car. When i checked the oil i got a message saying "inactive". The system check came back "OK".

I connected the sensor, and it shows 1/4 quart low. The sensor is $200.

Any thoughts on how to trigger/wake up the sensor? From what ive read there isnt a mechanical part that a gentle whack would fix.
Thanks
