Welcome! Car looks great. I too came from a gen 1 MINI, but mine we're R53s...10 years of them. Still miss them, but the 1er is almost as much fun and way more refined.

Loved the Mini but $4000 for repairs in a year was a bit too much.

Remap

After getting the car and washing it...

Name: IMG_1521 forum.jpg
Views: 1477
Size: 434.2 KB

...I did the first mod which was a remap.

Name: IMG_1541 forum.jpg
Views: 1299
Size: 180.4 KB

It took as a while to find the ECU but after a bit of digging we got to it.

Name: IMG_1542 forum.jpg
Views: 1417
Size: 249.7 KB

The result was 210bhp and 420nm from the stock 177bhp and 350nm.

The new map is quite conservative as we didn't want to push the high mileage turbo too much. It's still a big improvement to stock and the car pulls like a train thanks to the torque. No downshifts needed for overtakes!

New headlights

Next up I replaced the stock halogen headlights with aftermarket angel eye ones.

The new headlights had the same old parking light bulbs as the stock ones.

Doesn't look right with the white angel eyes.

Name: IMG_1579 forum.jpg
Views: 1260
Size: 156.7 KB

I simply cut the wire going to that bulb as that was easier than removing the bulb itself. The parking light wire now only powers the angel eye LED's.

Much better!

Bootleg iDrive

I wanted to replace the useless storage compartment in the dash with something nicer. I got a housing for a 7 inch Android tablet and put a Huawei T3 in it.

Name: IMG_1612 forum.jpg
Views: 1289

I am running the AutoMate Car Dashboard app on it. I also use a tasker to start/shut down the app and turn on power saving mode based on weather it is getting power from the 12v socket.

The battery stays pretty much at a 100% charge when driving the car daily. If needed I just leave my powerbank plugged in for 1 night and it is fully charged again.

I added a 3€ chinese bluetooth mouse controller so I don't always have to reach for the distant screen.

Carbon wrap, boot spoiler and exhaust work

My car had the typical peeling on the steering wheel trim but that was quickly fixed with some 3M carbon vinyl.

Name: IMG_1655 forum.jpg
Views: 1313
Size: 261.2 KB

Then I put on a carbon fiber boot spoiler which was a pain to glue on as it was cold outside and the carbon is quite stiff.

The 3M tape that came with the spoiler was useless so I used window glue and held it down with duct tape for a day to make sure it sticks.

While getting some new 225/45/17 Goodyear winter tyres fitted the shop also did a rear muffler delete with new twin tips.

Honestly the sound is almost stock. The only way to get some exhaust sound out of these diesels is to remove the DPF.

I knew that going in but as the muffler was rattling a bit and I wanted new tips anyway, I got it cut off.

The tips are a replica of the 135i performance exhaust.

Thought they looked familiar.

That's what I have, the PE on my 135i.

ZHP gear knob and alcantara boot

I replaced the not so great "Transformers leg" gear knob with a ZHP one.

The cracked leather boot was replaced with a M Performance alcantara boot.

Blacklines

I always thought that the stock tail lights looked great until I found out about the LCI Blacklines.

They make the stock ones look really old fashioned!

Mine started to gather condensation at first but I solved that by simply tightening the nuts as the new gaskets were quite stiff.
