I think people build cars up in their minds and buy cars they really know nothing about then realize they weren’t as hard core as the car they dreamt about was.
What I don’t get is he expects you to pay for his mistake and essentially pay full price for a now used car. Who knows how he drove it the first 1200 miles. You can pay the same price for a new one even if you need to wait a couple months. The market is now littered with M2s which will be the same for the M2Cs. I’d rather buy used or CPO and take less of a depreciation hit. |

As a general rule, it doesn't make much sense to buy a new BMW, especially a performance model or a convertible, since so many of them end up being lightly used and then dumped onto the second hand market at ~40% off after a couple of years. I have profited from that reality several times in the last few years. Nonetheless, some people don't like to buy used cars. If you are buying new, it really only makes (economic) sense if you are going to own the car long enough that you don't care how much it has depreciated when you decide to get rid of it.

I don't know how many of you ck out the other car forums on bimmerpost...however, I've been lurking on the M2C one for quite a while now.
There have been several Posts on M2C now where new owners are underwhelmed with the car, or not satisfied with the car, or just didn't meet expectations. It's pretty 😢 However, maybe expectations for the M2C are just to high??? Or potential owners think it is going to be sooooo much better than the M2? I dunno??? |

I guess I'm old school that I don't buy a car without driving it.
These days people buy car after watching reviews and after the corporate hype machines builds up hysteria. Kind of a sad state of consumerism. I mean I'm sure plenty of original 1M owners bought a 1M without driving one; but it was a very low production car whose demand greatly exceeded supply. There weren't any to drive... The M2C is an 'ordinary' M car. Mass production numbers, not limited in any way. I don't have much sympathy for people who ordered these without every driving them: and now are underwhelmed. Remember the M235i a few years ago? It's such a boring and dull little car but was hyped to the moon. Consumer culture these days is all hype; little substance.

If you're willing to go down to two seats, there are tons of fun options out there, from Mazda, Porsche, Lotus, Alfa, Alpine, etc. As it stands now, the M2C is the only fun, smallish, two-door, four seater that's currently being made (that I can think of.) |

I cannot believe how many 2017 M2's are for sale for in the LOW 40's! With under 10k miles.

This newer generation of kids don't even know what to look for in a car? What good handling or feedback is? I really stress it among my boys 19 and 14, and the oldest knew how to drive a MT at age 15. He is recently the new owner of a 2002 330i that I picked up on BAT for close to nothing! However, he can appreciate the car and how it handles and drives and he loves rowing his own gears! Pretty cool! But, sad thing is he is the only person his age that he knows that can drive a manual 😩 Here is a pic of his new (to him) ride 😁 |
