I got them for the simple fact that every one of my previous vehicles had them and I'm afraid to chance getting the car and then wishing I had power seats!

Ive never had power seats and dont plan on getting them. I currently drive a 2005 chevy cobalt coupe and dont have any complaints. I go to the gym atleast 3x a week and drive each time taking my girl and brother in my car. I am constantly moving my seat to let people in and out. It only takes 2 secs to adjust it back the way I had it. As far as comfort I also have no complaints. I drive in 2+ hours of traffic each day and never had any discomfort. BMW quality is way above chevy so Im actually looking forward to new manual seats.

Just wanted to chime in on how ridiculous 100lbs. in power seat motors is. The Tesla's motor (for the ENTIRE CAR) weights 70lbs and generates 200 horsepower. I'm thinking you'd have to be pretty fat to need that kind of power to move a seat. Based on how slow they move, I'd be shocked if it was over a 3-4 ounce motor. I've seen RC car motors in the 1/2 pound area generate almost a full hp.
Manual seats still need rails, joints, etc. The power seats might actually weight the same due to the lack of handles & knobs. The difference is certainly less than a gallon of gas would weigh. |
