OT: HTC phones

Hi all,

Does anyone have a HTC phone here? I am considering going for the HTC Desire HD when it is released. I have never had a HTC before so wondering about their build quality. The HD looks to have the goods both in quality and specs. Anyone have any advice?

I've got a HTC HD2. I like the way it operates, however it has water ingress issues.

I had a HTC HD2 too, work got it for me. It kept crashing but I think that is because of Windows Mobile 6.5. Otherwise, I thought they are well made. The AMOLED screens are the business. And the Sense interface was great. I don't know about their Android models and Windows Mobile 7, but I would stay clear from earlier Windows Mobile models.

I'm using the HTC Magic and runs off the android platform. I like it better than the iphone but thats my personal opinion.

HTC have been around for ages and ages, but mostly OEM'd their phones until maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I had an HTC before they became 'famous' and loved it. The build quality would be the last thing I worried about, more what OS the phone comes with.

HTC are good phones providing it runs the Andriod os. Have you looked at the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S? its a great alternative to the iPhone if your an iPhone hater like Craig and Jess it runs Android also.

Had 3 of them, all had issues
poor reception, poor call quality, network connection is weak -er than comparable nokias and iphone
earlier WM versions certainly contributed with frequent freezes and crashes
I would stay away, they aren't as good as iPhone/blackberry competition yet

My mate's got a HTC desire and it's a pretty good phone by all accounts. I'd also recommend the Samsung Galaxy S. The Nokia N8 looks the goods but from the sound of it, symbian is going the way of the dodo, with Symbian^3 being underdone and support for symbian dropping off with samsung and sony erikson no longer making any symbian based devices.

Well I have a blackberry and had nothing but problems with it... I know most manufacturers have a bad model here and there.

Not a fan of the Galaxy, it feels too cheap. When I held it in my hand and put force on it it creaks like a plastic toy...

I think my only options are iphone4 or the Desire HD.

These days quality is pretty good, some of the stuff from a few years ago was pretty bad.

I bought an HTC Nexus One and an iPhone 4 - found the build quality better on the iPhone. Sold the nexus mostly because android wasn't quite what I was after (still felt too beta + more productive on iphone). One complaint about the HTC's I've seen - screens are too reflective in direct sunlight - haven't played with the latest samsung/motorola stuff to compare.

Hi all,

I went from the first of the Iphone 3G to a HTC and I personally prefer the HTC.

I picked up the HTC Legend with Amoled screen about a month ago. Very solid with it's metal body and I love the operating system with Android 2.1.

I haven't had problems with it yet. It just does what it is meant to do. Fitted a 16Gig Class 6 memory card and the phone is still very responsive.
Only set back is that applications are currently saved to the phone memory and not the memory card.
This will be rectified when Android 2.2 is released, which according to HTC will be very soon.

Communicates with the car with no issues and all the functions on BMW's bluetooth work properly with the phone.

Compared the basics of my HTC to my brother-in-laws Iphone 4.
The Iphone 4 has a better definition screen.
Web browsing and email features were quicker on the HTC (might be network based).
HTC can bluetooth and connect to different brands of phones, Iphone cannot.
HTC doesn't need Itunes. Simply plug into computer and download.
In call quality(voice quality and reception) seemed the same.

My only critisism of the HTC is that it is power hungry. Use it all the time surfing the web, phone calls and so on and I cannot get through one day on a single charge. Car charger was a must for me.
Love it though and do not regret getting it.

Don't get me started on iPhones...........

I've been using an HTC phone (Touch, Touch2, Touch 3G) for the last four years, and aside from issue caused by my own doing (dropping it into a cup of rum/coke, squashing the screen next to my car keys in my pocket) they have been fine.

The only thing I will mention is that the casings tend to be a tad weak. All of my models had cracks in them after about a year or so. However, with that in mind, I don't tend to treat my phones with a great deal of care either.

I've had one HTC branded phone, my current Incredible. After doing some searching on HTC, I've owned 3 or 4 over the years, and I remember them as some of the better phones I've had.

The BEST phone I've ever had was my Motorola Timeport 270

I've been using a Nexus One for a year now and it's the best phone I've ever had. Fast, good clear reception, easy browsing on the web when required. Sync's with my car and Torque is a great app when I connect up using my BT OBD key.

Hmmm this is a relevant topic... I'm thinking of moving from an iphone 3GS to either a HTC or Blackberry - not sure which... I want to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab so won't necessarily need a big phone - thinking of a blackberry pearl.

Soooo..... decisions decisions!

Hi mattyv,

Can you please explain a little more on this Torque app? Found the app on the Android Market but what is this BT OBD key that you mentioned?

Thanks

I have a Desire HD on its way to me right now. Fedex says it will be here within the next 30 mins but i think thats a bit optimistic at 5:30pm.... Fingers crossed! If you give me a few days i'll let you know how i go.

The desire got great reviews and its basically a desire thats got a better build quality, camera, screen and a bit faster so i can't see how i'm going to be disappointed from the reviews i've seen
