Sign me up. As long as they fix the damn fuel pump that is. It's interesting to see how many of us learned our lesson on n54 equipped cars. If I pick one of these up it will be a year or two into production. Long enough to determine what gremlins come along with this great car.

This is not the best idea BMW has ever had. Sure the styling will be great but other than the DTC and some better seats, it doesn't sound like its getting anything that special.
I'd personally rather have a 135 and $5-10k to add on some nice mods like intercooler/tune/dp's/exhaust/coils/LSD/ssk. You'll definitely be sub 5 sec 0-60. |

Thats the direction the next gen is going, remember? I can't wait to see the M1 with wider tires and flared fenders. :-)

WTF? Why did my post get deleted... I'm not trying to sell LET's products I was merely making a point (by using their numbers) that the current 135i can be tuned MUCH further than what this M1 will offer in terms of power.

unless they are upping the displacement on the motor or using bigger turbos and using high end components that can't already be purchased aftermarket, I just assume most of this extra power will be from the ECU being tuned more aggressively and not much else changing I guess.

Even tho the X5M and X6M are powered by a modified 4.4 L V8 the M moded 4.4L is vastly different than the std 4.4L. Im hoping that there will be a similar difference between the std N55 and the modded N55 that will most likely be employed by M. |

But would I rather have an ///M1? Yes. No doubt about it. My dad's '07 ///M Coupe is in another world, in every single way when it comes to driving dynamics, compared to my car--and the 135 is definitely faster in a straight line. But as I and many others have said before, having an ///M is not all about straight line speed. It is about having a car that you can drive comfortably everyday that handles very well....it is quite obvious when driving my car and his car back to back that there were definitely different purposes in mind when these cars were designed and constructed...I mean, you can only blow the doors off of people light to light so many times and not get bored....which is what the 135 has become to me--boring. This car, the ///M1, has me excited about BMW again...... No to mention there aren't any warranty concerns when you go the ///M route, since (at least for me) there wouldn't be nearly as much modding to do....the wheel wells should be much wider, it should be a little lighter, the suspension will be better, it will come with more HP and torque out of the factory, and overall it will have those little touches that all of us with 135 have gone about adding to our cars..... And I'm sorry, but there is just not the same mystique to a heavily modded 1er in comparison to an ///M1....

We have to think about all the guys that bought the E30 M3's twenty years ago. Compare those with the guys that heavily modded out their normal E30's back in the day. Today you'd be telling family/friends/etc about your crazy modded E30 or your BMW E30 M3! Which one today holds more value? Geneva is in March ;-) |
