Michelin Pilot Super Sports & BMS Spacers

Hey Folks,

The RFT Bridgestone Potenza's finally decided to start leaking on me. I believe it is finally time to upgrade and I've been hearing nothing but great reviews for the Michelin PSS's. Where I'm having trouble is deciding between 215 / 245 and 225 / 255 sizes. I've read that everyone seems to be upsizing to the latter, and in fact, that size should have been the stock size, however, I also would like to use 10mm spacers in the front and 12mm spacers in the rear, and avoid any rubbing without having to roll. If it matters, the car is equipped with the M Sport Package.

I would stick with the smaller sizes if you plan to use spacers, unless you're willing to play with the camber or roll the fenders.

Fender clearance is very tight on the 1-series!

+12mm and a bump in tire width might make it close in the rear. Fronts could also be a little bit of a rub spot also.

I rubbed on all four fenders with spacers, stock wheels, and 225/255 PSS on stock suspension. With the fatter rubber you won't need the spacers anymore to push the wheels out.

I was running 12mm front and 15mm wheel spacer with stock suspension (M-sport)
they fit fine, no guard rolling

BMW performance suspension springs + 215 and 245 REO50 + 12 & 15mm spacer = no problems

Currant set up all above but with Nitto INVO 255/35/18 rear, slight rub rear guards rolled.

Michelin PSS's are a chunky tyre tho, they are really FAT! be mindfull of that!

Perhaps the solution provided by Edogg is the better solution for my situation. Move up to the 225/255 tire and avoid spacers altogether.

I've also been hearing that moving away from RFT's will cause some grief as the car is designed for RFT's. The dealership seems to be pushing Conti RFT's, however, when I mentioned PSS's, the tech sort of put on a shit eating grin, and admitted they are amazing.

Am I making the right decision? I know it's very opinionated, however, I avoid potholes like the plague, I've never had a flat tire since I started driving, hopefully due to my desire to avoid awful roads, and I generally don't bring the car too far from home. I apologize in advance for my paranoia.

The question comes back to you as, what are you looking to accomplish with new tires? Just daily driving? Any spirited or autox style events? Occasional drag strip trips? That will really help us guide you into adequate replacements.

I also have Michelin PSS 225/255 with 10mm spacers in the back and 5mm front on stock sport suspension. I will scrub a bit over dips in the rear and my fenders are rolled.

Michelin PSS 225/255 is hard to beat. I run without spacers - just carry some fixaflat around. That would be my only worry.

I am considering these tires also on stock suspension. Plus sizing to 225/255.
I currently have Conti DW's, but need a change.

I'm torn between the Mich. PSS vs. Bridgestone RE11. With this rubbing issue, maybe the Bridgestone is a better fit?

Apex make two models of wheels, EC-7 and ARC-8, which allow 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear street performance tires (not slicks) with no other suspension mods. You can get a touch more with front camber plates and some fender rolling. If you are performance oriented that is the route to go.

stock wheels/tires sizes with ventus v12's and i run +15mm spacers on all 4 corners. the front's are very close to rubbing but don't.
