Haha thanks for all the compliments guys! I totally stole this idea from spaceg135i haha! No need for a DIY really I just took a little hack saw too the two ends where it connects on the car. You will need to do a little sanding and there will be a little opening left there. Just be really careful so you don't scratch or "cut" the paint too. When i get home I'll type something with a few more details up. The area you're going to e cutting is pretty awkward btw.

If you just yank out No. 11..wont it look weird? Won't there be unused tabs or something showing?

I'm curious as well...I bet it will look weird. I might see if I can get it out of there without taking off the whole bumper.

I just looked at mine, and it definitely pops in from behind the fascia. I didn't push hard enough to see if you can remove it without removing the entire fascia, but the vertical divider between the 2 air channels will get in the way.

Also, there will be tabs showing if you remove it completely (as shown in the diagram above).

That may be the first time I have seen the word superfluous on a automotive message board. And in the correct manner to boot.

Right..sounds like cutting with dremmel, sanding, then possible repainting is the cleanest way to do this "mod"

Alright guys...I just did this to my car. Used a dremel rotary cut tool (the disc one) and cut the flat divider out about 3/8" away from each end. Used the sanding tool to sand it down. Took all of about 5 minutes and it really makes this thing look sporty. I took a good look at #11 to see if I was going to go the permanent cut route or not and it would not look right. The #11 piece has sort of a border all around that covers up some tabs and other non-finished looking bits. It looks great...will post a pic later but it looks just like the OP's as mine is the same color.

No need to repaint! A dremel sanding tool will actually match the color pretty closely if you are careful. I'll take pics of the close up soon.

Wow I'm glad that this little mod has sparked such a following haha. Glad all of you like it and that some of you are planning to do it or have already done it. Yea I dont think taking out the whole #11 piece would look good..too much empty space! Make sure you post up pics when you guys do it! If any of you are local you should help me sand mine down I dont have the right tools so my cuts are a little sketchy haha but its alright.

I pulled um out but had to leave (fiancé had to order one of her bridesmaids dresses so I'm in hell right now). Anyway it looks ok from 5 ft away, up close yes u can see missing tabs. It was a pain to get um out, had to take off both wheel wells and under paneling to get um out. I wonder if now having them out we could make custom pieces to put back in and further direct airflow into the wheel well. Maybe I should call icarbon or vorsteiner

I'll post some pix tonight or in the AM.

there isn't anything stopping it from happening now though, that little grille doesn't do crap.

Yah... A custom little enclosure would be nice to get that "clean" look while still having that opening.

Thanks for the pics! Personally, I'd rather cut off the horizontal bar than remove the entire piece. But, my car is AW and the tabs would be blindingly obvious.

yeah well i suppose its only a $25 piece to replace but for people who have leased cars cutting might not be an option

It kinda reminds me of when I was getting my aero bumper put on but the plastic duct pieces hadn't come in yet so that whole area was exposed. Makes it look unfinished.. Maybe if you replace it with something aftermarket it'll look a little cleaner, but keeping the hole open contrasts with the mesh in the center opening.

Maybe pull the plastic out and replace it with this

http://www.bimmian.com/82/RMG/

they make the mesh for the E82 brake ducts..
