$750 Blue Tooth ARGG!!!
I HATE how you have to get BMW Assist to get Blue Tooth, that is a load of <Expletive Deleted>
Well looking at the Do it Yourself Forum it is apparent you can retrofit aftermarket for $400. But of course you have to install it yourself and i can even build a lego car. So what I would like to know is, does anyone actually use their 4 years of BMW assist? Since it comes with road side does it maybe lower your insurance cost? I figured $400 to install it myself and risk breaking my car, or $750 and know it will be right. |

Yeah i agree $750 for blue tooth is B/S but my question is does anyone actually use their BMW Assist? Like pressing SOS and to get their insurance premiums to drop (like the BMW Assist on BMWUSA.com states)

I have bmwassist/ bluetooth & I absolutely love the BT (not because I'm a CA), but because it works great. In general it also gives much more functionality than most other BT systems. |

Also since pretty much none of you are paying list for these cars, you really are only paying around $685
For the covenience/ functionality & peace of mind in case something happens... that's not too shabby Dave |

BMW ASSIST AND BLUETOOTH IS A MUST! Especially if you have a MT, the bluetooth is the easiest and most user friendly car bluetooth I have used and shows phonebook, texts, and etc. all in the dash. As for the the BMW assist, you never know when you'll get in an accident and from being in one 2 days after I picked my 128i up I see how valuable it is. I had police, firemen, and an ambulance within minutes thanks to them. I think it is worth the price but its all how you prioritize your driving needs.

At least you're getting some things that are arguably related (both bluetooth and BMW Assist have to do with telecommunications.) I was borderline on Bluetooth and had survived 19 years of driving without telematics, so I decided to forego this option.
This packaging is nothing compared to the pure offensiveness of requiring to buy the entire premium package just to get lumbar support. |

if you're buying a 2009, you can NO longer retrofit the factory kit as easy as I did as the pre-wiring is no longer there. I think BMW did this to cut costs. You can still install the mObridge system which I have heard is awesome so you may want to look into that, but it can get pricey.

being young and probably ignorant on the subject as I never need it: it's for people with back issues
btw, I was wondering from your username before you said you went to law school, are you a DA there in Florida? I am starting my third year at Loyola Law School this fall, and I year from now I'll be another one of those "just what the world needs" people

Yes I know its for people with back issues but I messed with it on a Demo car and I couldnt tell the difference lol
I have back problems from hockey (I am small and get hit a lot) but I didnt feel any better when messing with the buttons. No I am not a DA, that was my career ambition but when I realized how awful I was at Crim Law, Con Law and Criminal Procedure I knew I couldnt manage to be a DA. Looks like Torts is the way to go lol |

The lumbar support adds an adjustable lower back air cushion. It is only available with the premium package, power seats. The manual sport seats do have the electric backwdith adjustment, but not the lumbar support.

I will not get my 128i convertible until July 21 but my plan is to buy the mount from BMW for a Garmin 760 GPS with Bluetooth and MP3. I will also get the accessory microphone and I plan to wire the sound to the radio with the aux jack but I might try the FM first. I should have the GPS with bluetooth for about $250.
The way Garmin does bluetooth it picks up your phonebook when it connects and you can pick out the phone number you want on the touchscreen. Sound comes through the car speakers. You answer a call on the touch screen of the GPS (and it mutes the music if you are listening to the MP3s in the GPS). It is not as clean in appearance as the $2100 iDrive + the $750 bluetooth and it does not have the assist but then it costs less than 10% of the BMW systems. Jim
