There could be a lot of possibilities, 1 series ///M, 135i CSL??, someone mentioned the tti badge ( touring, international, injected), X1, or.... the Z2 which should be based on the E82 chassis. Although the way the "event" is being called (1ntensified Performance Orientation) it means 1-series something. Anyways here is a picture and also an article for those who did not know about this future car.

the M department doesn't work like that...they aren't going to introduce an M1 the same year as they introduce a new 1 series. notice the carryover of the e46 m3 almost two years after the new e90 was introduced. same for the m5.

The problem is the 1 series is not a new platform, it came out in 2004...in Europe. They're not going to keep producing the old platform for years just because the U.S. got it later. There will probably be a staggered introduction just like with the 3 sedan, then coupe, then convertible.

My guess is that if there is ever an M1, it would be in the next generation of the 1 Series. There will no doubt be some performance-oriented variations, like what will be shown in Tokyo. But I'd be surprised if they launched an M1 Coupe in this version.

I like the name BMW M87 Doesn't follow the M-tradition, but does center around performance. ie. Harken back to the older days with model number with m-performance package. |

M87 can also be read as a BMW engine code - M being an old gen (last gen -prior to 2002), 8 would indicate a V-10 configuration and the 7 indicating diesel TDI.

There was a manual (looked like something for a Service Advisor) that was found on another forum. Here's a thread with that info on this site:

As Scott26 said above, there is precedent for an M prefix (ie. M135) if using the M1 moniker is considered unacceptable. That's what was done with the E28 5-series in the early 80's before the first M5's were produced. It was a stronger engine, tauter suspension and better aero treatment.

The E28 M535 from 84-85 only had the visual bits and suspension - the engine was pure 535. (I'm a little hazy on the years, but it should be close).
