N54 Durability?

I just recently bought my first bmw (135i) and i am absolutely loving it!! i was just curious on how durable the N54 engine is? im not saying by any means that i beat on my cars, i actually tend to baby them! Im kinda wimpy on the throttle! lol but anyway my question is can the N54 take the abbuse? is it safe to take it up to 5000 rpm's? id like to have some fun with this car getting onto the highway and stuff but ive just always been scared to take a car over 5000 rpms! i dont mean physically scared i just mean scareed that im gonna hurt the car!
thanks for your replies in advance and please dont laugh at me cause i drive like grandma!

Just make sure that the car is properly warmed up (needle on oil temperature gauge moved towards the center) and then you can shift at redline and you're not going to hurt the engine

P.S. but if it's a new car I would suggest that you start exploring higher revs after the break-in period (after 1000 miles).

thanks for your response! i noticed that my oil temp guage never sits in the middle at 120 degrees! the highest it ever gets is about 100! is this normal? the bmw mechanic told me that its because its winter and also because i have the msport pkg with the oil cooler.... he also said that come summer time it will probably sit in the middle at 120 degrees! is he right?

That's normal Well the answer from a BMW mechanic is a bit of BS. If you would drive the car (in winter) aggressively the needle could go even slightly above 120 degrees...

So don't worry, just enjoy driving your beast and be safe

Oh and all 135i's come with an oil cooler...

Don't worry at all. BMW engines can take a hella lot of abuse.

Example, I have a 1988 M3, redline is 7800 rpm. It has 150,000 miles on it. Yes, after oil is warmed up I routinely bounce her off redline during spirited driving.

BMWs can take it...which is part of my love for these cars!
