What do you use for jack stand pads?

I find it moderately annoying to lift my BMW because there's no perfect way to do it. I have the round pads with a block on top that work great for my jack. The problem is that most jack stands are not flat on top. They are curved like a crescent so the pads I have don't fit well on top. Outside of spending $150 for new jack stands with flat tops, what is everyone else doing? I'm replacing calipers, pads, and rotors this weekend and I really prefer that the car be stable since all four wheels will be off the ground.

Just get the ESCO jack stands and be done with it.

Those ESCO stands are nice but I've been using simple Harbor Freight (non-recall) stands with their rubber pads that fit them. It's possible, depending on what you use, that the pads they sell might fit the stands you have.

Failing that, I've found that hockey pucks work great for jack pads.

Ugh! I just can't do it. I've already got 4 perfectly good stands now, they just don't work with the BMW. Besides, 4 of the ESCOs are about 1/4 the price of a QuickJack on sale.

Meh, I ended up just cutting down a 2X4 and laying it between the jack stand and the plastic guide on the car. My guides are a little chewed up anyway, but they're cheap to replace and surprisingly, they don't seem any more damaged now.

All of my plastic guide points have both ends folded in because of I've always used regular jack stands. One day I might replace the plastic pads if I get new stands, but for now, living in an apartment, that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Why don’t you just get the aluminum jack point inserts? Pop em in and put on any stand

I've done zero research on what these are, but adding another point where a stand can slip, not what I'd be looking to do.



Cutting down a cheap set of stands (if for nothing else a pattern) seems like a good budget choice to me.




Myself, I've just never felt comfortable with this car on jackstands (2 or 4). Getting the car up onto them was where my anxiety would peak.
I went with building some wheel cribs instead. I feel more comfortable putting the car up on them than anything else.

I can relate because of the short wheelbase. I got the Escos and haven’t looked back. Get the shorter model.

Don't use 2x4 chunks. That will create an unstable situation. ESCO is the best solution but these inserts a good.

Was cleaning my garage today and just for jacking my car up i have
2 big floor jacks
1 small floorjack
2 bottle jacks
4- 3ton jackstands
4- 6ton stands
2 cheap walmart stands for holding up loose suspension and such.
2 huge stacks of 2x12s for under wheels
2 huge stacks of 12x12 patio bricks for the same.
Its ridiculous!!!!
Im moving soon and a 2 post lift and big garage is on top of my list.
As iminhell1 said when you use the center jacking point to go up really high is the scariest part. I use the bottle jacks on both sides once i can get them on the subframe without getting under the car. So i can get it up to height for me, my creeper and a thick rubber pad for my old ass to get under there. Doing a big job soon and both subframes are coming out. So ill be up high on the 6 ton stands front and back. Im trying to get a local shop i hang out at to lend or rent me his quick jacks

I use hardwood dowel cut to fit the size of the jack stand recepticle. Works with any standard jack stand and super stable, deforms over time and easy/cheap to replace at virtually any big box hardware store.
