2011 135 Backup Camera?

Has anyone had a TadiBrothers.com BMW Backup Camera Installed? (SKU19947 for my 135iC)
Did you do it yourself?
How do you like it?
Are there any better ways to get a video backup camera on the Navi Screen?

I think the best one for our cars is sold by bimmer-tech and basically swaps out a license plate LED light for a camera+LED light, so it's fully integrated, is powered on by the reverse lights, and while I have no personal experience with it, it looks to be the best one in my opinion. You can find some videos of the install and how it looks on youtube as well:

I've thought about it a few times. There's a video on youtube of the installation to get an idea of what it's like. I might get it at some point down the road and is the only thing I really wish was available on our cars, mostly when backing up in crowded parking lots when you can't see what's coming down the aisle thanks to the giant truck next to you.

Oh and I'd kill for heads up display.

Our camera is integrated in the trunk handle like OEM cameras and indeed this is the best rear view camera kit on the market

What if you don't have iDrive (for the display)?

Wait...this car is TINY with excellent rearward visibility...why on earth would you need a backup cam?

(unless you have some sort of neck ailment that prevents you from turning your head enough to look behind you - that's the only reason I can imagine)

I'm not flaming the OP, just wondering why you would need one on such a small car.

Convertible rear windows are much smaller than the coupes. A backup camera (+ iDrive for kicks) or rear PDC are some of the only items that I'm seriously considering retrofitting onto my e88.

I found this video on YT. Not sure how easy it is and if it is the same.

Looks intriguing.

My 135 is a convertible and has truly horrible rear vision with the top up. Besides I really do have a bone spur in my neck! I am terrible at backing up, and need all the help I can get.

In that case, you, like me, are hosed. SOL.

I'm contemplating PearlVision's solution.

Absolutely love the bimmer tech solution but I'm not feeling 7 bills just to help me backing up. Has anyone tried this "El Cheapo" solution with wireless transmitter to iDrive? Is there an input into iDrive?

I know you don't want to spend the money on the Bimmertech solution but for me it's the only way. I don't like to half ass installations. The Bimmertech solution is truly plug and play. The only issue is locating a place to mount the multimedia module. If you have a similar setup as my car (ie full tech package) then, I've already done the hard work for you by figuring out where to install the box. I did a write up of my install here:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1207855

If you add in the SmartView module, then the system really shines. I also added the SmartView module which allows me to mirror whatever I have going on in my smart phone onto the iDrive screen. I use it mainly for Waze. But I've had been known to project up a game or two during March Madness with audio. The multimedia module will also accept additional video/audio inputs.

The integration is seamless. I put the car in reverse, the iDrive screen immediately shows the rear view camera to include the parking assist lines which move based off of the steering angle sensor. Hold down the Menu button on the iDrive controls for a couple of seconds and the screen displays video input which in my case is the SmartView module.

While the cost is pricey, the total integration into the iDrive system without any need to code or hack it in, makes the money worth it. I've had my car serviced at my dealer numerous times with the system installed and not once did they make a comment about warranty issues. Plus the support I've received from Bimmertech has been outstanding.
