Enclosed CAI - AFE Version 2

Hey Guys,

I was wondering what you guys thought of AFE's new CAI.

I have always left my intake stock for 2 reasons.

1. Didnt want to have 2 big filters sitting in the engine bay taking away the clean look of the BMW.
2. Concerns of heatsoak and decreased performance.

I have attached the link to the item and I can see a few vendors selling the item on the forums.

Naturally the system does not produce the same level of power as a open intake, but thought may be an increase over stock and get a hectic intake vroom psssh sound lol

Any recommendations guys? Any other manufacture making a enclosed CAI?

Not sure how that is a 'cold air' intake as it looks to be taking in air from the engine bay?

Also not sure how loud the intake noise would be as it's 90% enclosed...

I think the OEM intake is better.

I'd like to see independent back to back dyno testing before moving away from the standard intake.

I don't think he is buying it for the performance benefits? More so for the sound.

I can understand that, a good sound is worthwhile. Personally I always go for performance but each to their own. The stock car goes hard enough for most people anyway.

I rkn i will pass on this... As you have mentioned Kenny (in a previous thread) there doesent seem to be an intake worth wild that can out do the standard box. I was gunna go injen duel cone but once again concerned about heatsoak and didnt wanna rice up my engine bay lol

But ofcourse a nice induction sound would of been nice... o well lol hopefully something will come out that meets my requirements. power increase and sound

The only intake that looks better designed than the stock intake for Performance is the Dinan but it's 1k. It incorporates the stock intake.

Open pod filters reduce the waste gate cycle of your turbos giving them an easier time if you're running high boost, but heatsoak is definitely an issue.

Essentially - open filters for single drag runs. Stock intake for consistent power and less heatsoak issues. There's a dyno somewhere on e90post by Mr. 5 on comparing BMS and stock intake that proves this point.
