For those of you who would like to extend the tour... What "IF" we would drive from Stelvio to the Gardasee (lake area) ? I still would like to end up in Kuftstein for Evolution80 's Alpine roads in that area. I want to stay one night at our SchlossBlick Hotel again. But we could drive South to the Gardasee stay over night somewhere and then drive back to Kufstein.

1addicts Gran Turismo: Day trip to the Sella Pass

If the Stelvio group fancies the idea to spend a whole day driving through Alto Adige mountain passes and the weather circumstances are not adverse (normally it will be bright sunshine and ± 30°C), the road map below is a rough sketch I just figured out of an insane drive passing lakes and mountain passes. Preferably organized during a week day: Monday 22/07 or Tuesday 23/07 (the other day: relaxing Garda Lake round trip).

Starting out from the city of Trento, getting to the "Sella Pass" area ("Sella Pass" - "Passo Sella" - "Sellajoch") and finally back to Trento via other roads. No roads are driven twice.

Ignore what the reference points indicated "A" to "M" stand for: these are just for convenience to allow Google Maps to let us choose the backroads we possibly want for this mountain trip. Furthermore, the Google Maps scheduled time calculation is unrealistically optimistic. This kind of trip takes a day, especially because we'd like to do it in a relaxing fashion, with several stops for a break (enough parking space over there) and to shoot pictures of the impressive panorama. Also keep in mind that the Sella Pass area is very popular amongst bikers and cyclists, especially in the high season (July/August). That's also why it may be reasonably considered to be wise to send us over the A22 Brennero highway for the final stretch from Bolzano to Trento (± 55 km): you feel physically tired, you're craving for a refreshing shower, the sun starts to hide behind the mountains and you're definitely fed up zigzaging through mountain curves and hairpins ("I've had it - That's enough for this year !"). So there is the highway: ah, the open sea...

If the idea of a mountain trip gets the green light, I'll try to scout it in July to check its feasibility (too long, too hard, closed backroads for road works, dodgy backroads, etc.).

1addicts Gran Turismo: Sella Pass - Long trip (339 km - 06h22m [too optimistic Google Maps calculations]):
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=V...via=9&t=m&z=12

1addicts Gran Turismo: Sella Pass - Abridged Trip (252 km - 04h23m [too optimistic Google Maps calculations]):
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=V...sz=15&t=m&z=15

For some inspiration: Porsche 911 C4 GTS Cab driving from Grödner Joch to the Sella Pass in 2012 (check SS242 somewhere between reference points "I" and "J"):

And to do Dackel a favor: itinerary with Schlossblick Hotel in the Kufstein area as final destination of the Sella Pass mountain trip.

I do not know about any of these routes Luc. That looks like one hell of a long drive to me.

I am not quite sure where we should drive Monday morning. Maybe back to Kufstein (SchlossBlick Hotel) and then drive evolution80 (Andreas's) Alpine roads around there. We could easily spend a day doing that. Maybe throw in a Castle stop or two in. ?

I am still looking for more input from the other 1Addicts.

Hey Guys,

Ok... sorry I have been busy lately. Stelvio 2.0 is still a GO!

I think The PLAN is that we will meet up in Nauders, Austria say around noon Saturday July 20th. From there we will drive some Alpine Passes and then onto our Post Hotel (aka Francesca's Hotel) in Trafoi, Italy

Name: Stelvio 3717595300_ee3f2b3d28.jpg
Views: 331
Size: 104.5 KB

I am thinking we shoukd drive this route on Saturday...

Nauders Reich Pass
Flüela Pass
Davos Pass
Fuorn Pass

https://maps.google.de/maps?saddr=65...via=2&t=m&z=10

For Sunday I have not settled on a route per se. But I do have some ideas on where to drive. IF anyone has a suggestion - I am all ears.

I have been in contact with Francesca and she has agreed to give us a very good deal on our hotel stay there.

Rates are as follows. For one person, per night, includes dinner AND breakfast and free WiFi(in the hotel lobby) and parking - a rate of 55 euros. That is per night, per person. So one person staying both nights will pay 110 euros. Only thing extra would be drinks with your meal.

We can park outside in front of the hotel (like where we stopped last year). Francesca also has a tennis court up on the hill above the hotel. We can also use the tennis court to park our cars inside of too. It is gonna be a tight fit... but I think we can make it work. I think the earlier we get to the hotel the better - as far as parking goes.

I need to know ASAP how many people are coming on our Stelvio 2.0 tour. So far I have 24 people/cars.

Francesca just needs an accurate head count. I have secured the hotel payment - so we don't need to call and give our personal cc info. BUT I do need an accurate head count! So please post IF you are coming AND how many people in your party. I think for the most part we will need single rooms.

Then on Monday morning I think we should drive up Stelvio Pass one more time... and then back down into Trafoi and then drive direction Kufstein, Austria. We can stop in Imst for that sommerrodelbahn in Mieders, Austria or Imst(closer and on the way to Kufstein!) or just drive to Kufstein and our hotel there: SchlossBlick Hotel near Kufstein.

Some of us 1Addicts stayed at the SchlossBlick Hotel in May for our Welt and Alpine drive. SchlossBlick Hotel was really nice. Our room rates there include a FOUR course meal again, parking and free WiFi in the lobby. And also a Continental breakfast. Rooms are limited here to 22 rooms plus a few apts. I really need to know WHO and HOW MANY people will join us for the Kufstein driving tour on Monday and Tuesday. SO please post whether you will join us for this extended Stelvio tour.

Stelvio....

55 euros per night(pp including dinner and breakfast!) in Stelvio at Francesca's Post Hotel. Only thing extra will be drinks.

Kufstein...

I am waiting to hear back - from the hotel. I know we will probably be paying a little more since it is high season. In May (low season) we paid 68 euros for one person in a room(double bed) by themselves or 110 euros for two people in a double bed/room. That inclued a FOUR course dinner, breakfast, WiFi and parking. It was a really nice hotel in the Austrian countryside.

SchlossBlick Hotel does have two small Apts which can accommodate up to four people in one apt. IF anyone wants to save some cash... you guys could go in on one of these apts. I kind of figured everyone would want their own private room.

Ok, most guys are only doing the Stelvio Pass tour Sat & Sunday July 20th and 21st. Some guys are thinking about getting to our hotel in Stelvio(actually the Post Hotel is located in Trafoi, Italy) on Friday afternoon.

But our driving tour is for Saturday and Sunday - driving the roads in and around Stelvio and some other Alpine Passes. We will stay over night Sat and Sunday at the Post Hotel in Trafoi, Italy. Post Hotel rates will be 55 euros per person including dinner AND breakfast and parking AND free WiFi in the hotel lobby.

Then some of us "die hards" will drive North up to Kufstein, Austria. This is the first Austrian city on the A93 (heading back North to Munich/Munchen). We will stay one or two nights(depending on what the group wants to do) near Kufstein at the SchlossBlick Hotel. This is a really nice hotel in the foot hills of the Alps. Hotel rates will be around 70 euros for one person or 110 euros for two poeple in one double bed room. I have to double check on those rates for the SchlossBlick Hotel, bc now we are in their high season and those were the low season rates.

Andreas (Evolution80) lives near here and he will be our personal Alpine tour guide. The roads are so nice here... Andreas has said he often see's Porsche/Audi/BMW/MB all test their prototypes on these roads that WE will be driving. We will have an AWESOME time.

Some guys will only stay one night in Kufstein and then take off for home. Some will stay both nights(like myself). Its all up to you. Just let me know what you and your dad would like to do.

Both Hotels know us(me) and I have stayed at both of these hotels before. It will not be necessary for us to give our Bank(or CC) info before we check in.

Both hotels are run by very nice people and they trust me when I say I am coming with 25 people on such and such day.

I only ask you(and all the others going on the tour) to PLEASE let me know if you can not make the trip. Other than that... we are set to have FUN!

PLEASE EVERYONE bring your PASSPORT(!!!) For those of you who don't have one... bring your ID card and I think we can do what we did last time around. You know who you are!

Make sure your car has its GREEN cards (international proof of insurance cards). You will also need an Austrian Vignette for the Austrian Autobahn(you can buy one before you cross into Austria for 8 euros for ten days). IF some of you guys will be driving on the Swiss Autobahns... you will also need a Swiss Autobahn decal (40 euros). Everyone should also have a warning vest(for each person in the car(!), first aid kit, warning triangle and spare light bulb kit(sold in most grocery stores and gas stations). And for us Army & Airforce guys... try and get a International drivers license thru your Driver Training Dept on Base.

Also... guys buy your gas in Germany(1.60 euro) or Austria(1.40 euro). The Italian gas is around the 2.10 euro mark. No joke.
